my dog watches too much TV

He had gone to bed and heard the guy singing on that android commercial with all the odd couple animals. It is one of his current favorites. He comes running out to watch it and then goes back to bed. He's a little scary sometimes.

My dog reacts that way to many animal sounds on the TV, especially puppies and dogs.

Anyone else hate commercials with doorbells? Right now it's the Swiffer commercials, annoying when my dog barks and thinks someone is here.

I don't think it's that unusual, I have friends with a Shepard mutt that howls to the family guy and american dad theme. They got him as a pup and don't know why he does it. I have only ever had a few dogs in my life and none of them recognized anything on TV except the doorbell chimes =[

Apparently dogs love singalongs.

I had a free trial of that DirecTV pet channel.
It actually worked.
My dogs perked up and looked around, sometimes looking at the TV.
Especially when showing a closeup of a dog.

But after a while they lost interest.
All TV has a real problem with keeping viewers interest. It's not just a dog thing.

We have a German Shepherd police dog and she has taken a liking to the TV. So much so, she will sit in front of the big screen even when its off just waiting for someone to turn it on. She watches so intently that calling her for food time, sometimes will not work. We have noticed that during scary movies, she will detect the scary and become scared herself or will jump in our lap. She often will run to the back of the house (the room behind the TV) believing that when a dog runs off on the TV screen, but must be in the house somewhere. Yes, German Shepherds are smart dogs!!!

The only thing our dogs care about is doorbells. But they've pretty much got it figured out now, unless I have the surround sound on.

We adopted them last January. I knew then he was going to be interesting to have around.
On the advertising run up to the Superbowl, a mention was made by some random animal planet guy about the "puppy" bowl. The dog was grooming, not looking at the TV. He hears the word "puppy" and looks up at the TV, does not see a puppy, gets this disgusted look and goes back to grooming!

Our dog responds to animal sounds, doorbells and knocking sounds that emanate from the television by barking incessantly.

The dog is obviously attention starved. Obviously, the first time the OP saw the commercial was one of the few times he felt compelled to acknowledge the dog. Obviously, the dog made that association and now desperately seeks to repeat the scenario. When he see's his owner scowling back at him with sick amusement, he returns to his corner in the basement to sleep on the cold concrete. Obviously.

I don't think any of our dogs have ever cared what was on tv. Though, they've reacted to the sounds when it's an animal sound.

Mine ignores the TV completely. And sometimes ignores the doorbell and probably wouldn't even bother getting up if burglars broke in. But open a kitchen cabinet and she comes running.

ours ignore tv entirely. They hate the noise actually. They much prefer a quiet environment most of the time. Then they want to play for five hours.

When Im watching a movie in the theater room and something loud happens, it scares the cat and she runs to the bedroom and hides under the bed.
