I haven't read the entire thread but the answer here is very simple. Cat comes in your back yard, your dogs kill cat, you spend $200 on vet bills for a checkup of all 3 animals and the cost of putting down the cat.....she owes you $200.

You'd be dead. I'd shoot you in self defense.

Some one is arrogant...
Tough talk but if you even tried to do that sh!t down here we would be calling the cops to come pickup the dead guy that tried to assault me in my home...

She has no chance in court. Her word against yours for starters. You described a cat, but there is no proof it was hers.
The cat was in your yard, and may have been attacking your dogs. They injured the cat in self defense, in their own fenced area.

Not many people keep pet chickens, skunks, or roosters.. let alone let them out of the house if they did. Cats are in the top 2 of house pets and are also let out of the house a lot by some families who have them. Against most dogs they stand no chance in a fight, so that's why it turns out to be a cat owner in almost every situation like this... it's not about being obsessed, but people love their pets understandably.

Your hatred of cats oozes from your post.

For what it's worth, since yer one of dem there city-slickers, your first sentence is a bit redundant. Roosters ARE chickens. The other types of chickens are called "hens" and "chicks." And also, for what it's worth, I know a LOT of people who have chickens for pets. (I have 30 or so myself.)

If you're cat is dumb enough to come into a yard with two dogs, then it is not my fault that it gets killed.

He shouldn't be held accountable for bad animal-ownership on the part of his neighbor.

I don't care, I'd ring the persons doorbell and proceed to beat the person. Like I said if I get arrested thats fine, at least I get the satisfaction of the beating.

Cats wander about, you shouldn't have ridiculous bloodthirsty dogs.

Dogs known to attack medium sized animals also are likely to attack small children.

And you really can't keep an eye out 24/7 for your animals.

Almost all dogs have the instinct to chase down and rend a 'kitty toy.' Doesn't make them "Bloodthirsty."

Doesn't sound like OP leaves his dogs alone with children.

And you can't really keep an eye out 24/7 for your DOGS either.

Chances you would be on the receiving end of the satisfaction of a beating...

You completely misread DigDug's post. DigDug was asking why there are many many crazy cat ladies, but very few crazy "other animal" ladies. I agree. It seems like most other pets, even the most fanatical owners give up after getting 4 animals. Crazy cat people amass 12 or more and STILL want more.

What is it about cats that brings out the crazy hoarders?

Back to the question...tell her to SUCK IT, I'LL SEE YOU ON JUDGE JUDY and be done with it. She let her cat wander. She didn't approach you about it for WEEKS. She's got nothing on you. She just wants a quick buck.

Better watch your dogs. They're liable to "attack her" and get shot if they were to venture on to her property.

Dogs are more work. I'm sure there would be crazy dog ladies all over the place if they weren't significantly more work. Cats are quite low maintenance as pets, well, most anyway.

Who in their right mind lets a pet they think is worth $2000 roam free into other people's yards? That is just nonsense.

Do you keep your dogs on a leash in the backyard? I would worry for their own health if they are able to run around the backyard and kill anything that comes by. What if that cat were rabid?

1. Not if you keep your possessions on your own property. I know many people who keep their cats in their houses and have no problems.

2. Bullshit. I've known many dogs to catch the unsuspecting hummingbird or rat and they are the nicest dogs you will ever meet.

3. If you can't then you don't deserve to own any animals. Be responsible for your own property.

hummingbird or rat is not a cat.

I'm sure there isn't a sane pet owner in the world who watches their pet 24/7.

I'd have a feeling I'd beat you especially hard because you are quite arrogant and un-neighborly.

If I see my pet attacking another person pet cat or dog, I immediately scold it to make that kind of behavior cease.

*cough*... idiot *cough* *cough*

Judging from the caliber of the rest of his posts, Prol is just an upper-middle class angsty teenager whose parents didn't pay him enough attention as a child. It's no surprise when his views on pet ownership and courtesy between civilized neighbors are no less childish that his political leanings.

I own a cat, and my wife and I are very fond of her and keep her inside for that reason. It would be as much our fault if she was running loose and came to unintended harm as anyone else's, no different than if a pet bird/snake/rat/mouse/rabbit/etc escaped and made its way into our house and the cat's belly. It's sad, but the OP did the right thing and can't be held accountable for his dogs' nature to prey on smaller animals when they were restrained in his own yard.

Both of them, but of the two, the only one I wish harm is the cat-hating HamburgerMoron. At least Proletariate sounds pro-cat.

Hey Proletariat,
If my hypothetical dog were to get loose, run around the neighborhood, and you accidentally ran him over in your car, is it fair if I beat your face in and expect you to pay me for my dog?

I was going to jump on the bandwagon and make a few points against Proletariat, however I noticed he has a thing for Che which speaks volumes and points to how he probably doesn't have much in terms of critical thinking skills.

she doesn't have much of a case, but be careful. she may try to take revenge on your dogs. if your dogs are dangerous, maybe they should be tied up. however, if thhe cat didn't have an id, how can she prove it was hers? and if it is a $2000 cat, why does she let it roam freely? if she sues, counter sue. you'll win.

Talk to her neighbors, find the ones that hate her, and tell them to make reports of cats roaming free every couple of weeks so that she gets cited every couple of weeks unless she gets them under control.

Joke is now on her.

Oh, and before she can sue you, sue her for the costs of the vet bill. Teach her to STFU and stop being a b!tch.

Some people are retarded. I hope your neighbour realizes that this isn't anyone's fault really besides the cat and her.

I am one of those crazy cat ladies. i dont have a house full... but i have nine at the moment. the most i had at any one time was thirteen. i take the ones that are homeless, helpless, abused, mistreated and neglected. i pay out of pocket to get them healthy, fixed and vaccinated then find them homes privately. the ones that will never be placed... missing paw, or tail or emotionally problematic, or just too old... will live with me forever. i do not collect them. i just adore cats and want to help them as much as i can on my limited budget.

to the OP: Tell the owner that you are very sorry for her loss, but her cat is her responsibility and if she was so concerned with it's safety... she would have kept it at home, indoors. the death of the cat, while sad and tramatic for her is due to her own lack of protecting her pet.

Well said!
