I wasn't even aware there was a type of cat that cost that much. It sounds more like she is trying to get a lot of extra money out of you.

Ok, I had a similar experience. My wife had a breeding ragdoll (yes, it was actually worth about 2k). It would sometimes go into our front porch area (fenced off) and wouldn't leave the property.

There was another neighbor (well, a lady about a mile away) who would let her dogs out to urninate/defecate by simply letting them roam the neighborhood. Well, one day she did that they ran across our cat, jumped the little fence and killed her.

Since it happened on our property (her dogs were a mile from home, our cat was on the property) the cops highly recommended she pay for the cost of the cat (no pain or suffering or loss of business reveneu [the last you could sue for in small claims, no pain/suffering]). We just asked her for the actual purcahse cost and she paid it.

Point being, the cat could be worth that much. But if our cat had gone into her yard and this happened, I would have offered to reimburse the vet fee for putting her down. Given the situation, sounds like you acted above and beyond what is even reasonable (good for you, even if she is nuts, karma will reward you eventually )

If my pet was killed by yours, I would seriously beat the sh!t out of you. I don't care if I get arrested.

I also wouldn't like to have any of you as neighbors either. If your dog killed someones pet, you should pay up. Now $2000 seems like a lot of money, but some restitution is in order.

If you're cat is dumb enough to come into a yard with two dogs, then it is not my fault that it gets killed.

He shouldn't be held accountable for bad animal-ownership on the part of his neighbor.

I don't care, I'd ring the persons doorbell and proceed to beat the person. Like I said if I get arrested thats fine, at least I get the satisfaction of the beating.

Cats wander about, you shouldn't have ridiculous bloodthirsty dogs.

Dogs known to attack medium sized animals also are likely to attack small children.

And you really can't keep an eye out 24/7 for your animals.

And the moment you attacked me, you'd seal your fate as the same as your pet's. Oh, I'm sorry, did I just stab you in the eye socket? ******, that looks pretty bad. Let me call 911 for you, and while the cops are busy "securing me", the medics won't be able to scoop you up. Blood loss is some nasty ******.

Bowl of antifreeze on the porch (away from your dog's acces) FTW! Get the rest of the wild cats that are roaming on your property, too!

My mom's neighbor has a cat and it is also coming into her yard and spraying her windows, her flowers, etc. If I still lived there, that cat would probably not last long.

For the record, I am allergic to cats, and I'm really not a cat person anyway. My allergy is an adult allergy--I was fine as a kid.

The neigh bor used to have a dog that would hop our fence, and I felt the same way about it, too. We were able to stop it fro m jumping over the fence, though. A cat climbs and has to be kept indoors. PERIOD.

I have two Greyhounds in a fenced in yard (#1 rule of owning Greyhounds).

If anything got into my yard, be it squirrel, bird or cat - they are not escaping. Interesting how they work together to corner something.

If that happened to me I would just laugh at the woman. I mean what does she expect.

This story tells a lot about the US legal system and ppl's attitude. How incredibly laughable this is. Legal action over a dead cat. I bet they even exhumate the body and take it to a specialist. And the previous owners of the cat will have to visit a psychologist for years and live on antidepressants ofc. They will name a star after the cat etc. Human stupidity.

Tell them what you found through your research. And if they want to communicate with you anymore they must do so in writing so you can document their ridiculous demands, claims and behavior. Any other contact will be considered harrasment and trespassing. Give them this notice via certified mail.

poor cat I feel bad for the cat, having an owner like that...why was she letting it roam out into your yard? Especially if it was such a valuable one...

I wouldn't worry about it, these people don't have any proof that the cat was what they said it was (proper documentation), they don't even have half a brain between the three of them.
If this cat was worth $180k they could afford a lawyer, not an impersonator (and oops, it's illegal to practice law without a license).

The same reason that most people who keep animals chained up in the backyard for months with poor food and no shelter turn out to be dog owners.

I think that people who sue should, in most cases, die.

Just by reading the summary, yeah, you do own her to replace a cat. But yeah, she's attempting to scam you by claiming it costs $2k. And I normally despise netspeak, but you really PWN'ed her with everything you provided to the cops.

No he doesn't...IMHO paying hundreds of dollars in vet bills for an animal that was wandering in his yard without a collar was going above and beyond his legal obligations.

If I was the cat owner, I'd be sad that my pet died, but I'd thank the OP for taking it to the vet and trying to save it, and I'd offer to pay the vet bill.

OK, that's just cruel. Do you know what antifreeze does to pets?

Why would they only want $180K from you? Surely, they would keep 3-5 female kittens that would each produce at least 90 other kittens , who would each produce at least another 180K in income. If we extrapolate that out over your neighbors? projected remaining life of another 35 years, it seems like you could be in the hole for Millions. I'd probably consider paying her the 180K + a little extra just to make her happy and call it a day. Realize how easy you are getting off.

as an owner of two cats who go outside frequently, if my cats were stupid enough to go into a backyard with a dog(s) then they get what they deserve. and I really like my cats.

This is just stupid. If the cat was worth that much it should have been insured for such an occurance and NOT let outside.

That's ridiculous that they want that money from you after all that you did (and all they didn't do). Let them take you to court so they can get laughed out by the judge (or forced to pay for your vet bills).

At this point you should file a suit against them for harrassment and extortion.

As for her claim of value... Whatever. You should (if you really want to continue with this) demand to see proof of registration that she owns the cat along with proof of pedigree. If the cat had ever been bred before, demand to see receipts of kitten sales.

Basically she sounds like a stereotypical "crazy cat woman" with emotional problems who is upset about the loss of her pet.

Where is Devil'sAdvocate when you need him...

And proof that we are discussing the same cat. Just because she had one go missing, and he found one dead doesn't mean they are the same. I'd go ask the vet that put it down if he believes the breed was correct or not.
