This may have been covered (skipped towards the end after the update)... did you verify with the vet that the cat was not neutered? somehow I'm picturing the cat having been neutered and this being a big scam.

Himalayan tabby, I don't think that even exists..? Himalayan cats look a LOT different than tabby cats. In other words, she had a mixed breed worth nothing?

My cat wandered into the neighbors yard once and got beat up by their dogs. He's a strictly indoor cat, but wandered out through a door that was left open. They offered to pay me for the vet bills. I told them absolutely not - my cat was in their yard. It'd be different if their dogs had come into my yard.

As other's have said...
1. The cat was on your property. Nuff said.

2. Your dogs killed a cat. Your neighbor lost a cat. There's no proof that these are the same cats, and it's unlikely any carcass still exists to confirm either way.

3. If it was a valuable cat, I'm assuming it would have been chipped - and the vet would have checked for the chip.

4. Has she provided any evidence that she owned a $2000 cat? Sales receipt? pedigree? show entries/awards?

5. If you can make $180,000 off of one cat in 9 years, I'm in the wrong fscking business. I'll go out and buy myself a whole herd of them!

That was my first thought too but "tabby" just refers to a pattern and not a breed. You can have a tabby of many different breeds apparently.

I have never killed a dog or cat in my life accidently or purposely.

One time I hit a dog and it didn't have a collar so I took it to the vet, took care of it and then asked around. Turns out it was someones dog and gave it back to them.

Thats what I expect neighbors to do, especially if you live right near someone.

He should have apologized and given her a small amount of restitution and everything would have probably been fine. Some people can get really attached to animals, especially women and kids. She was probably just angry or exasperated after hearing that her animal was torn to shreds.

So helping a stray cat that has wandered onto your own property and has fallen prey to your dogs is above and beyond what you have to do?

Yes.

She got the ticket from the cops for having unlicensed animals. She should also have to pay the vet bill as well.
