If you read his post, the woman has recieved nothing but a 200 dollar ticket for her cat getting killed so far.

What the hell should he do?

He should have apologized and given her a small amount of restitution and everything would have probably been fine. Some people can get really attached to animals, especially women and kids. She was probably just angry or exasperated after hearing that that her animal was torn to shreds.

He did give here 200 dollars, and he did probably apologized. Are you this big of a dofus in real life, or just after you get home from school?

Submit to a Proletariat style beating, because of the woman's mistakes. Its kind of like how battered women "make" their partners hit them. Like the guy gets drunk and gets a DUI on the way home, so he beats her up. Because it was her fault.

I bet he would have done this if she hadn't pounced and threatened to sue. It's hard to act like a good samaritan when someone is trying to defecate on you. $2000 is outrageous, though. Seems like the going rate for a kitten is $500.

Hey Proletariat,
If my hypothetical dog were to get loose, run around the neighborhood, and you accidentally ran him over in your car, is it fair if I beat your face in and expect you to pay me for my dog?

I have never killed a dog or cat in my life accidently or purposely.

One time I hit a dog and it didn't have a collar so I took it to the vet, took care of it and then asked around. Turns out it was someones dog and gave it back to them.

That's exactly what the OP did, he took it to the vet and attempted to fix the situation, there was no tag, when he was asked about it, he fessed up about the situation. That is a good neighbor, and i wouldn't mind living near him.

Your point about beating somone if they (indirectly) killed your pet....that's just immaturity, if you can't care for your own pet, then you shoudn't own one in the first place. The death of a pet is a unfortunate thing.

Given the circumstances in this case, the OP in my mind is in the right. As has been mentioned, if his dogs had run loose into his neighbors yard and killed that cat, it would have changed the situation. It's sad that people want pets yet aren't capable of taking care of them. I can't babysit all of my neighbors cats, they wander naturally, if it's a dog, put up a fence + leash. i love animals myself, and wish they'd all live happily, but then there are irrisponsible people.

good luck OP, keep us updated. Proletariat - i dont' know you in person, so i won't make any judgements about you, just that your comments aren't based on much rational(the violence thing), and are immature.

You know, the idea of a cat being worth $2000 sounds pretty bourgeoisie to me.
Wouldn't Che applaud the destruction of such a symbol of capitalistic excess?

How do you know he wasn't an ass.

If most people are like the people in this thread, I wouldn't doubt it.

Or $70 to adopt one @ the local animal shelter. But even $70 is too much. It was her own fault, why should he pay?

It's not that far off in some cases. My mom paid $800 for a best-in-show main my excellent compatriot. And it was neutered.

That sucks. You did the right thing IMO and your neighbor is an idiot. I would tell her to screw off, you did all you could for her cat which was on your property and they are lucky you aren't suing them for the $200 and the pain and suffering you experienced.

1. He doesn't owe her any restitution, but in fact he's already paid it in trying to save her cat.
2. She didn't ask for a small restitution - she asked for $2000 - and now $180000?!?

$500 for a himalayan I meant.

He shouldn't pay, but the point is that she wasn't even being remotely reasonable. Even if the OP was a jerk to her, which I don't see how that's possible since he took the cat to the vet of his own accord and paid an expensive vet bill, the fact that the lady has now gone bonkers with the assumed income thing would throw away any possibility of a pleasant outcome for me.

How is getting the dying pet medical attention being nice? I don't understand this, maybe I'm operating on a different level here.

I think thats pretty much standard practice.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with everyone else if you have a $2000 cat that makes you $180,000 a year there is no way in hell your gonna let that cat out of your home. My family has a cat and I barely let her outside but I do understand that if she is outside that there are any number of things that could happen to her including death. I doubt that we would try to sue anyone unless their dog ran into our backyard and pounced on our cat.

Just wipe your ass on 180k of monopoly money and hand it to her. Tell her to enjoy her feces stained money for your fantastic fecal smelling story of a $2k cat.

For one thing, the cat had no tags. So he didn't know it was a pet, he could just as well have been taking a stray to the vet. And may have been since there is no proof that it was actually her cat. And again, the cat was on his property - he incurred a significant expense due to her negligence. She should reimburse him.

I think thats pretty much standard practice.

Animal control is just a phone call away, and then he wouldn't of had to pay to have the cat put down.

Did he not pay 200 dollars for HER cat? I know that this requires putting 2 and 2 together, but even an orphan like yourself should be able to add.

No, you have the reading comprehension problem - he paid for $200 worth of vet services that were caused by her negligence. He could have just tossed the cat back over the fence and call it a day. That's likely what he'll do next time after this B.S.
