My DVD burner won't burn anymore, don't get it...

Ok, Im currently using the PLEXTOR Black SATA DVD Burner Model PX-716SA/SW and for a while it was AWESOME! Its rated to be one of the best DVD burners on the market apprantly and it really was up until about 2 months of use. All of the sudden the thing just won't burn anymore. It will read CD's and DVD's fine as a player, very fast for that. But when it comes to burning stuff, completely doesn't work. I've updated drivers, tried different DVD media, tried different burning software, nothing works. The most common issues Im getting is that it stops burning like 1/3 of the way (on nero when burning my DVD, it will burn up to 14% than just stop, when burning CD's, it will burn up to 4% then just stop). It always stops at the same point too, its odd. I've tried re-connecting it and re-installing it, nothing changed. Can anyone help me?

I would try emailing plextor, do you still have any kind of warranty left on the burner

I have a similar weird problem going on.
About a couple of months ago I built a new computer for my mom. The burner and everything were fine for a long time, until about a week ago. Everything/the computer was starting to run super slow, and it stopped burning cd's and dvd's (it still reads them, and I have even booted from that drive a few times). So I ghosted it back to the original image (right before I actually gave the system to my mom) and it still wouldn't burn discs. So I though maybe the burner was crapped out, and put my burner from my comp in, that I used just last night. Still same issue. I am using Nero, as that is what I am current on. I get to the screen where the progress bar is, and it just hangs for a ahile, and then claims it doesn't recognize the media both with cd-r's and DVD+r's.
I have updated the mobo drivers, and the software to no avail. The only thing I can imagine is a BIOS setting might have been changed by my brother, but that seems a little far fetched.

Setup is a ASROCK 775V88 with a P4 3.0, 512 Dual channel Kingston RAM, and a lite-on 1963 and 163 burners

check for starforce drivers in your system, they are known to destroy optical drives
