My ear is Leaking!!

I hate being sick and having an ear infection.

What does it mean if there is fluid in your ears? I am prone to ear infections but have never asked what the fluid is...

The fluid is the puss that is in your ear. If you are in your late teen or older, then you should see a doctor to see if you need Penicillin to kill that bacteria once and for all. An ear infection could be dangerous for an adult and it could cause permanence hearing loss.

When I was little (1st-6th grade), I had an earache about once every 2 weeks. It was horrible. I had a fever about 1/4 of the time. I have NEVER had an infection in my right ear. It is always the left ear.

Right now, Tylenol and Sudafed are working. If I was in serious pain, I'd already be at the ER...

the title of this thread suggests that you either have an otitis externa which is an infection of the external ear canal or a perforated eardrum secondary to infection. suggest you get it looked at as the treatment is different for each one!

For the past two years I was getting ear infections (never had one even when I was a kid). I had 12 ear infections the last being the worst (both ears). I went to my doctor and I found out I had an enlarged adanoid (like tongsils but in the sinus). The adanoid was blocking the eustation tube (passage that connects the ear &amp; mouth). I had the adanoids taken out and no more ear infections.

Here is a little trick I learned to help clear the passage:

1. pinch nose closed and blow like you are blowing your nose but only apply light pressure.

2. as you are applying pressure swallow water or your saliva.

9 times out of 10 this would clear my ears for a while.
