They give me a POS HP 6730b with 2 GB RAM, Windows 7 and a ton of their software like Zen Works, Novell, McAffe Encryption and I am sure some type of spyware. I also have a T1 that is shared with about 30 people.

At any moment, I am half a breath away from putting my fist through my monitor and pulling the laptop out of the docking station and smashing it.

That will either get me promoted of fired. Probably the latter.

Clone the install to a SSD and at least your situation will then be bearable.

I am tempted to buy a laptop with an SSD, do my work on that and then transfer it on a flash drive. But I'd have to spring for Photoshop and Acrobat Pro.

Create a text file and save it to the desktop with the name "Crysis".
Open the file and minimize it.
Now whenever your computer is running a bit slow you just glance down at your taskbar and see that Crysis is running in the background.
This should make you feel better about your lot in life.

jokes apart, i'll agree, with these heavy resource hungry programs that you mention anything below 4GB is garbage.

Create a text file and save it to the desktop with the name "Crysis".
Open the file and minimize it.

LOL

I would never tell you to go download the Creative Suite CS2 from Adobe that doesn't require activation.

Never. :sly:

Not like one can go buy their own either unless you have the extra cash laying around. Has another employee ever bought/brought their own laptop/notebook? That's not the ideal solution but just wondering.

Edit: I c u added some memory.

They brought in another T1 after I complained so many time. But we'd had it for a month and they won't "activate" it. Whatever that means.

If you can't figure out a way to sabotage that computer to the point where it's cheaper for them to get you a new one rather than wasting more time having IT fix the damn thing then you are not worthy of the title "Elite Member".

So true, I have Win 7 64 with an SSD, makes my aging E8400 bearable. My scanner's software won't run on 7 so I have to boot to XP when I need to scan something, (not very often thank god), I couldn't imagine how I lived with the boot times for so long LOL. I usually go get some coffee while it's booting and hopefully it's done and ready by the time I get back. As for OP's situation the employer is F-ing themselves by making him use an ancient machine with newer bloatish software, if you were paying someone to rebuild an engine would you get him the cheapest dollar-general socket set and then wonder why it's taking him forever to get it done??, stupid..

Lol... quit your bitching.

Dell Optiplex 745 with an E6850 in it. It HAD 4gb of ram, but I have a task on hand to do some investigation regarding VirtualBox, so I had them upgrade me to 8gb of ram.

On any given day I'll generally have Outlook, Chrome (with about 7 tabs), Trillian, several additional background services and apps that most people don't have, and between 2 and 4 instances of Visual Studio open along with various other debugging tools.

The upgraded ram helps, but if I come in on a patch rollup day and have to actually LOG IN to my machine, I put in my password, hit enter and then go to the bathroom and then get a cup of tea. If I'm lucky, by the time I'm back, my workstation might be at my desktop.

"Accidentally" light your laptop on fire and blame it on the battery. You'll get a brand spankin' new system.

I still suffer with a 4:3 second screen when over 90% of the company now has two 16:10 screens, but my department is too cheap to pay for the upgrade.
