It's crazy what they can get away with selling for $120.
You wouldn't. The OP does.I don't see an ethical issue here.
The ethical issues is that the warranty ONLY applies to the original purchaser. Would I do the same? Sure. But I don't see why people seem to be missing that.
As far as the neighbor, the moment he gave it to you, there are no ethical issues surrounding this from that perspective.
I can not tell a lie...I told a lie to get a free (after shipping) surge protector.
FINALLY! Someone gets it.
For those who seem to think I maybe should return it to the neighbor...nope, even if I agreed with you, it can't be done. This was his dad's house, and he was selling off some of the misc. in preparation to empty the house.
(the old man had a reverse mortgage...the bank now owns the empty house)
The ethical lapse was that I portrayed myself as the original purchaser...

Wow, that's a major ethical dilema.
Next time just say "*IT* was purchased 4 years ago...", dilema resolved.
As for your neighbor, he gave it to you.
This is exactly the kind of thing that drives up the cost of Monster's products.
you callin' the OP a nancy?Anyone who sees ethical issues with this is a nancy.
This is like jaywalking and worrying that you broke the law, or making a mix CD for a friend with MP3's that you bought, but shoulnd't be "shared".
The superbowl party I was at this year was illegal too.
Buncha nancy's around here

Um, that is theft. If you don't like the licensing on music, don't buy it.
It's Monster, ethically you should take as much money as you can from them to make up for their ridiculous prices and crazy lawsuits.
This is exactly the kind of thing that drives up the cost of Monster's products.
Sorry, Sally, but Nancy is correct.
