I have to say I am impressed.

I can play most if not all of my games at 1600x1200 at 4xAA and 8xAF and I am running quite nicely, at least as well if not better than my 9800Pro at 1024x768 with the same settings.

LOL I envy your checkbook with the $400 price tag. It takes me awhile to get myself to pay $200 for a video card LOL. Why did you decide to upgrade; where some of your games unplayable or not smooth or did you just upgrade to upgrade. I need to upgrade bad after playing far cry with my geforce 4 ti4200. Until now all the games i have played i cranked the settings up on and they have been silky smooth including unreal tournament 2004

I can't believe the 4200 is 2 generations old now, lol. Just shows how good a card it is.

I decided to upgrade now because it likely will be my last upgrade for a while. (First baby on the way).

$400 is not much for a card nowadays when I think I paid $200 for an 8 MB voodoo 2 when it came out.

Have not overclocked it, don't feel it is necessary.

This is my first eVGA card and so far I like it.

my Leadtek 128mb ti4200 is still running well at 320/590... poor little guy gets replaced by his new baby brother tomorrow....6800GT. The fan is making some strange noise, not sure if its dying, its nothing loud just sounds like resistance...

Looks like I managed to sit out one generation through the FX line... I guess that's not a bad rule to live by...every other generation. Then it makes the difference in performance worth the wait

Yes every other generation is a good rule; every every other generation... well that's not so fun. I'm just amazed at what I was missing with my GF3. Also amazed at the difference between 25 and 125FPS :Q

So you've used an eVGA 6800 GT then? I have and 2d is NOT washed out, so you obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Pretty sure I saw you bashing eVGA in another thread as well.

No 2d problems to report. Everything looks pretty good over here right now.

Yes i have bashed them multiple times, Evga uses sub-par components in their graphics cards, hence the lower prices almost completely across the board.

Their 2d quality on VGA is far worse than an Abit/Asus/Leadtek.

I have seen this phenomenon with my own eyes at lanparties, FX5200, FX5600, FX5900, FX5950.

Edit: this phenomenon is not seen on DVI.

obviously you don't know everything. nvidia themselves are manufacturing the cards to their specifications. they are all the same, only thing different between the bfg and evga is the stickers

Remember when fx5900 came out?

Funny how eVGA was the only boardmaker that used 2.0ns memory. All other boardmakers either used the 2.2ns or 2.4ns....slower memory access times.

Still sub-par?

I could have sworn Nvidia does not manufacture retail cards. They only sell their GPU's to OEMs.
And if you think a BFG and eVGA are the same card, you're off the track. I can't speak for the 6800 series of course and congrats on your new card, but I can speak for eVGA's history of piss poor components when assembling their cards. I owned both a eVGA 5600Ultra Rev.2 and a eVGA 5900nu and both of them had really crappy 2D to the point where it hurts the users eyes. There were a few threads in here about it and many people had this problem with eVGA's cards. Hopefully what you say is true for all new 6800's and Nvidia is being more strict and has some say of exactly what spec parts are to be used in the final production cards.

I can't tell if your being sarcastic or not, but, the memory is not the only component of a video card. There are numerous filters and other components that define 2D quality and clarity.

My point being is that you really can't bash a "brand" as pure crap.

I built my brother-in-law's using evga geforce4 and he's been happy fragging with it. I finished farcry using the 5900 oc'ed at 500/950 at all settings on "high" except textures on "medium" and the eye candy was just great.
