I'd set the house on fire just to keep warm in that kind of weather.

I've actually been pondering getting a wood stove, which is basically a controlled way of making a fire inside the house. I figure about 5k installed though, so still a lot of money, but if I actually ensure to always get enough wood every year and stay on top of it, I could use it every day and cut down on needing the furnace to run. The newer high efficiency catalytic ones will burn for like 12 hours on a single load. Wood is pretty cheap too especially if you get it yourself. (practically free)

I lived in Regina for 5 years. I know what cold is. What's your problem wimp?

yeah this is not the coldest I've seen, though I find once it hits -25 or so, anything colder feels all the same. Walked to school in -50 (no wind at all) a few times, that's the coldest I've seen it hit myself and have not seen it hit that since then. Maybe -45ish or so.

Someone I went to college with actually put boiling water in a water gun and fired it in these temps, the result was pretty awesome.

Timmons, pop. ~43,000 is 3x bigger than the city nearest me.

We haven't had a very cold winter so far. Lake Erie has basically no ice coverage.

For some reason, I always figured you lived in the middle of nowhere near the Alaska side of Canada.

Haha no, not THAT far north. Though we can get very similar temps here at times. Looking at a map I'm actually almost inline with a good part of the US border.

Would be kinda fun to visit some of those way up north places though, but then if I'm going to spend money on any kind of vacation, it would be somewhere warm. March/April is a good time for such vacation as after a while you do get kind of tired of winter.

Stop whining, In Saskatchewan it goes down to - 40 in December and only start warming up in May. Then, it goes up to +35 in the summer.

Any questions?

Not really whining at all, just stating the fact that it gets cold here. I know it gets colder in other places. Where is this magical place where it starts warming up in May? That's our prime snow storm season. Actually it tends to be hit and miss, I've seen heat waves hit in May, and blizzards, all in the same week. Nice thing is around that time of year is the days really are getting longer. At the peak of summer the sky starts to be visibly lit at like 3:30am and sun sets at like 10pm. When I see the sky getting blue it's my cue to go to bed.
