I ride my scooter 365 days/year

meanwhile, somewhere where the COL is way cheaper...

I agree with that. I don't care how cheap some places in the midwest are it's just not worth living there. HOWEVER the USA is a really big place. There are plenty of other places that don't have San Diego weather or Minnesota weather but are perfectly reasonable to live in.

Totally agree with this.

One day when I can deal with sub-optimal weather, terribad food options, lack of ethnic diversity, shitty job markets, and a dearth of entertainment options which matter to me, I will trade it all in for a lower CoL, the ability to play house, and bluer skies.

or I can get rich as balls and stay put.

Option 1 seems more likely =X

you clearly don't even make close to $100k/yr if you think you can do all of that on a salary of $100k/yr.
You are correct in your assumption that you cant do that on 100K a year.

The problem is people spend more than what they make, so 100K a year plus tons of borrowing.

You might think this but most people do not and will go crazy on the spending and leverage themselves to the hilt.

People always seem to forget that places that are more expensive to live are more expensive because people WANT to live there. Places that are cheap to live are because no one wants to live there. It's really that simple.

I partially disagree. I did not want to live in Los Angeles at all since it's a total shit hole. I lived there because of business there is good. Places that have higher paying jobs and more jobs to offer are generally more expensive. It's a catch-22.

Look at a map of the most expensive places in the USA. There's a correlation to jobs not to weather even if they generally overlap. There are oil towns in the middle of nowhere that are crazy expensive.

That's must be why Phoenix is a ghost town these days.

Sure Dubai is a good example but I was really more thinking of terrible places to live in Texas, North Dakota, and a few other places. Even parts of Florida where it's muggy and buggy as hell. People are there because of jobs.

And the other factor about money and happiness - save for the aforementioned union members, a lot of those who make well into the 6 figures on their own are people who have no family time and are always at the office or on the commuter train . I wouldn't do it. Middle ground is best.

or they are just smart and good at their job.

Damn. Where I used to live is almost 700 for housing. Definitely not moving back there. Overall 300. Good weather does not justify a cost of living 3x the average.

Yeah, but I loved it there. Did you know Stan at the deli?

i'll do it too since we're all doing it.

Cost of Living Rockville, MD
Overall 154
Grocery 111.3
Health 101
Housing 259
Utilities 112
Transportation 108
Miscellaneous 99

Man, that grocery index makes no sense. You have a couple of big Chinese supermarkets right at the heart of Rockville and an HMart just a bit further up. That should significantly lower that grocery index right there.

I thought it was funny that when I asked why people paid just as much to live in Orange County as LA or San Diego, they all had the same response (literally heard this phrase half a dozen times in a couple days: ) "In OC it stays white later at night."

Yea, those people stay in South OC where McDonald's gets 5 stars on Yelp. White flight pushes them ever further southbound. Anything north of Lake Forest is going to be much more ethnically diverse.

~90 with no humidity is awesome.

And when it's hot, drive a couple of hours north if you can't handle it.

oh, wait..forgot - I can't go anywhere because I'm "poor people" for living in Phoenix.

1) We'll agree to disagree
2) I know, it sucks to be poor. I'm poor too bro, don't be so offended.

Disagree away.

I'd offer you a spare seat in the Lexus when I go wheeling this weekend, but you don't sound like good company.
