Ughhhhhhh, I drive by this all the time. Sorry for your loss ;(
To give a little background - the 105 east ends about 3 miles? after Paramount Blvd. Lakewood Blvd is after Paramount, and then the 605 freeway, where it ends.
What happens is that the freeway goes from being a five lane freeway to a three lane freeway in a very short amount of time, probably because the freeway is going to end soon. The 710 freeway is the main entry/exit before paramount and the ramp to get onto the 105 from the 710 ends almost immediately and merges, probably causing very many accidents and close calls.
There is another lane that ends and merges around paramount (bringing it down to three lanes), and quite often you see people forcing to merge, otherwise go to the shoulder. It's really stupid because there is ALOT of room for the lane to keep going, but they make it merge for whatever reason. Not only do these lane terminations cause the 105 east after the 710 to have permanent traffic in the afternoon, but anyone who really isn't paying attention can end up on the shoulder quite easily.
I can attest to this. 105 has a very dangerous shoulder. I have driven into it many times myself. Sometimes they are indistinguishable to lanes.
