My favorite chocolate bar (not candy bar)

Chocolate bar, I mean the bars like Scharfengerger, Ghirardelli, Divine, etc.

My favorite by a good margin is the Ghirardelli Cherry Tango.

My favorite flavor is artificial cherry. Finding good foods with it is hard. This is one.

Most high end chocolate bars seem largely similar to me, and 'ok'. This one is delicious.

Dark chocolate, texture added, and a strong and delicious cherry flavor.

Artificial cherry might be my most hated flavor. It's between that, and grape. Neither taste like the fruit they purport to represent.

I might have to try this. My favorite is Ghirardelli 72% Intense dark. And I love cherry flavor. These bars have been 2.50 each at Safeway for a while.

Went to a wine & chocolate bar in Manhattan a few months back. There's nothing quite like getting drunk and shoving chocolate fondue down your throat all the while (trying) to look classy.

Pro tip: Don't wear a white shirt.

Ghirardelli sucks. It's a wannabe Godiva that they try to mass produce into grocery stores and such.

I'm still a huge Godiva truffle fan, but holy shit is it expensive.

I'm almost embarrassed to mention it, but Dove's Mocha Latte is quite enjoyable for a mass-produced chocolate square.

Thanks, I meant to mention and forgot that they're $2.50 at Safeway until Oct 27. I think you should try it and look forward to your review (and possible offer of presents).

thinking Ghirardelli is fine chocolate to begin with means the marketing is working

I'm actually not a fan of Ghirardelli generally, they're toward the bottom of my list of chocolate makers despite being located in the area I live. But this bar I really like.

Most of their stuff I'll not get, a few flavors like their mint filled is ok, I do like the big chocolate chip cookies they used to have at the company stores. But this bar is a standout.

While I won't touch much Ghirardelli generally, if I do want a chocolate bar it'd usually be something like Scharfengerger's limited editions, but I like these more.

This bar doesn't. My other fruit-flavored chocolate I do like is Lindt filled bars (not the dry bars), but I haven't been able to find cherry for years. Rasberry, Orange, Pistachio are fine.

Thanks but I hate coffee/mocha flavor.

I find Dove's grocery chocolate bars not that great unfortunately.

Thanks for getting me to go get one to check the ingredients on the natural flavoring, I ate some of it.

Also, I'm not saying these will win an award for whatever a chocolate competition might look at. I'm saying that they're my favorite as far as the taste.

My favorite is a plain hershey bar. I know it's not really chocolate. I don't care. It's got a particular texture and flavor that is highly pleasing to me.

I'm not judging, I eat and enjoy all kinds of chocolate from cheap to fancy. I just chuckled at the thought of something you can get at Walmart being "fine"

Hershey bars ARE real chocolate, don't let all the elitists get you down!

I kind of like them, they have a unique flavor.

I bought a couple bars today and a bunch of the 72% types. They were 2 dollars today!

The cherry tango is great! It nails the flavor of a high end chocolate covered cherry, one of my favorite candies. The nuts are fine and don't intrude on the smoothness. Similar to a rice crispy effect. The cherry flavor might be overwhelming for someone who wants a pure chocolate fix. Its sweeter than my go-to but not overwhelmingly so. My wife who usually hates the artificial cherry medicine taste liked this a lot. It draws you back for more bites.

We eat a LOT of chocolate and have tried just about every major make. I stay away from trendy indie companies making bars >$20 per lb. I have tried many types from Belgium, Swiss and German which are often good if not godly, but not much better than my favorite Ghirardelli types which I can actually obtain regularly and at good price.

Most of the chocolate I eat is 70% cocoa or higher. My favorite brands are Amedei (Porcelana and single origin "Cru") and Green & Black's. I like most of Green & Black's dark chocolate (and their milk and white chocolate were my some of my favorites before I became a vegan... their white chocolate is strong on the vanilla, almost like ice cream). I just tried their Orange bar yesterday, it's excellent. Amedei is too expensive for me to eat more than once or twice a year, though.

Lindt is also good and used to be my favorite easy-to-find chocolate (most grocery stores and supermarkets carry them), but at a similar price and availability I prefer Green & Black's more now. I also like Nói Síríus (70% bars). I often have a bar of that in my desk drawer at work and will eat maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of a bar in a day at most. People balk at the price of good, high cocoa/cacao percentage dark chocolate, but you don't have to eat anywhere near as much as cheap milk chocolate bars. You get richer and more subtle flavors to savor rather than just the sugar of a cheap Hershey's which is easy to just eat a whole bar in a sitting. There's nothing wrong with liking Hershey's (hey, I like plenty of regular candy), but it has very little cocoa flavor in it. It's marginally chocolate, in my opinion. There are numerous health benefits of dark chocolate, as well, that you don't get from the vending machine bars.

Valrhona also makes some really good chocolate, but I've only tried their milk chocolate and one dark chocolate bar (can't remember which variety) once a few years ago. I need to order some more chocolate from them. Guittard is probably my favorite brand for baking/cooking and for drinking chocolate (hot chocolate).

I've also been making my own chocolate lately. Made some dark chocolate 2 weeks ago and mint matcha white chocolate last week. Both turned out delicious. The next day I turned some of the latter into chips (well, chunks, really) and made some matcha mint white chocolate chunk cookies with them. Mmm.

Good to hear you like it a lot.

It's hard to find where chocolate and cherry work well together like you'd think.
