I'm pretty damn excited about this - I didn't plan on starting at this new place (new to me) until next month, but they're having an intro to oly lifting class from 11AM-1PM on Saturday. So I'm going to set up an appointment to talk to someone that works there, they'll show me around and hopefully figure if I should start on a beginners program before the group workouts or whatever.

I'm totally going into this with an open mind - I already told them that my cardio is worthless, but I'll probably pick up the mechanics of the movements faster than average. If they tell me "you're a n00b, take our jumpstart class", I'll do it. Hopefully I don't meet pukie.

It ain't cheap, but if it gives me the change I'm looking for with the environment I'm looking for, I guess it'll be worth it. It's just one less toy or a few less drinks every month, right?

Between CF, rock climbing, yoga and everything else...being active is not cheap!

That's awesome. CF affiliates are bloody expensive, but I'd happily pay their fees for professional instruction, if only there was one closer to me. Let us know how it goes.

Yeah, I'll post after I get back tomorrow.

If the adrenaline's still flowing, it might just be a series of grunts and chest pounds.

It was a pretty good class and the facility looked fine. One of the lead "trainers" is really well educated on top of all the certifications, so I'm liking that. Apparently I have a good natural jerk

I'm looking forward to starting in February - he suggested that I just join one of the group activities and see how I do.

Today was my first day at the gym...they were doing a kettlebell related WOD, but the lead instructor had one of his guys run me through a "test" to gauge how good or bad my basic movements were. Apparently I have great flexibility and my squat form is pretty good to start with. He helped me with some other stuff and then did 7 minutes of Cindy to test my metcon...I told them going in that I'm not worried about form or strength - I pick up on movements really quickly and my strength is decent. However, my cardio is absolute shit, so out of 7 minutes I was only able to do 7 rounds. It was my first time doing a WOD (even if it was reduced), so I learned as I progressed...I wasn't as tired as I thought and I was wasting a lot of time on my squats trying to keep PERFECT form.

All in all, I loved the experience and he said that I shouldn't have any problem ramping up to keeping pace with the normal group activities. The oly lifts will be my biggest weakness for a while, but they'll help me with those. I anticipate my hips and quads to be sore as hell tomorrow but I can't express how great of a feeling it was. If it's indeed effective starting 2x a week (I'll do some basic stuff at the apartment gym), I'll be adding 4-5 hours of free time every week. I can't wait to see how things go

If you have a good base of strength and flexibility, your cardio/endurance should shoot through the roof in no time. And learning the o-lifts will let you build all sorts of power and speed. CF is fantastic

So yeah, the hips and quads are sore, but in different way than normal - they're not sore from extreme loads, but rather high volume. Either way, it's a great feeling and I'm shooting for Thursday for my next day. Maybe Friday, we'll see.
