My First Tornado Picture

I am southwest of Hays, and this view looks towards Larned, which is southeast of my location. This is the best one I got - it was starting to get dark and stuff was popping up all around. Most of the worst stuff is east of me now, so I'm not too worried at the moment. There is more to come, tho.

All the storm spotters are out now, including my husband, and I'm monitoring them on the countywide scanner. With all the lightning flying around and the wheat almost ready to be cut, it could get ugly. Hopefully the rain will do put any fires out before anything gets too big.

My cats are terrified of thunder, so they're hiding under the bed. I may join them later.

Weather around here in Missouri has been crazy.....

We had two tornado warnings in back to back days this week in my county...and I was driving during both of them....

I drove through a microburst in one...it was pretty bad looking out of my windshield was like looking into the window of a washing machine...pretty scary though....my car was shaking I thought it was going to freaking tip over....happened to several cars here...

The other one missed where I was but, still got my car pelted with dime size hail....and some pretty crazy rains but, was nothing compared to what I went through the day before......

I'll get some pics up of the second storm at some point...my cable isn't with me...

Pretty neat. I watched a tornado do some pretty serious damage as a kid in Edmonton. Were you outside for the calm before the storm? Pretty eerie.

Wow --- I'm about 60 miles east of you. That storm faded out between you and me. We got about .10 rain and some wind, but that was all.

I was at least five miles away from this one, but there were several scary looking formations all around. I barely got home before the wall cloud came thru my town. No tornadoes here, thank goodness, but we're anxious to get out and see how our wheat fared. We're hoping it got mowed so we can take the insurance settlement, rather than having to cut and haul it.

Glad to hear it. I think we got lucky - no reports of injuries, just some hail damage. We'll know more when the sun comes up.

Good news: no major hail damage at the farm.
Bad news: no major hail damage to the wheat. We'll have to cut it, when the ground dries up. With temps in the 90's for the forseeable future, that could be soon. Or, if it keeps raining, it could be later. Who knows.
