My fish died

My fish died. Call me a pussy, but I was growing quite attached.

Maybe it's some kind of psychological projection. I call my fiance "Bear" or "Little Bear," and she calls me "Fish" or "Fishy." (I have short term memory loss like Dori did in Finding Nemo. I'm really quite the scatter-brain.)

I had four fish, and now I'm down to three. Carburetor died, and now I'm left with Midge, Phydeaux, and Cosmo. Carburetor was the biggest one and the only gold fish. The other three are more white in color and I'm frankly not really sure what they really are.

This sucks. I've had him for well over a year now... maybe 2. I'd like to know what happened so I don't kill the others.

I own 29 fish at all times, hard to get attached to any single one. Been doing it for about 9 years however, so I do enjoy raising fish.

Sorry to hear your loss.

2 years? My mom had kept a gold fish in her pond outside for over 10 years before it died.

how big is your tank? gold fish is coldblooded, I used to keep fancy goldfish, but they'd die every summer because the water was too hot (>80f) for them. Water temp should be below 68f. I was too cheap to buy a chiller.

I tend to think of my fish more as decoration. Larger fish are easier to become attached to though...

I have a 55 gallon tank that spans the foot of my bed that is gorgeous and mesmorizing to look at while laying in bed.

I lost 2 of my rosy barbs and a tiger barb last week. I guess there was something with our water at the time and I didn't condition the gallon I used to top off my tank enough.

I think I might lose another Tiger..... part of his stripe is gone. It looks like his scales came off in one spot and you can see his muscles at that spot. I bought and put in some stuff that's supposed to help the slime coat and promote skin regrowth this morning and he's more active then he was an eating again.

I bought a 20 gallon fish tank when I was small.. maybe 12 years ago..

Anyway, I stocked it with some little Tetras, a sucker fish (whatever the things are that clean the tank), three white golf fish, and one or two others..

Anyway.. today, there's 2 left.. the sucker and one poor white goldfish.. You can tell the goldfish hates being by himself - but my mom was too caring to flush them. She doesn't even want the fish tank around her house.. I told her to flush the fish like years ago - but she's too caring. I swear that white goldfish and the sucker will live forever.

If you want to know if there's something wrong with your water, take a sample in a jar down to a local pet store (Petco is fine) to have it tested. Usually they do it for free, and that way you can see if anything has changed in your water. Odds are the fish just got old, it's hard to tell how old fish are when you buy them so you never know what you're getting.

I lost 7 fish due to high ammonia content in our well water. Now I use distilled water and haven't had a fish die in over a year, but it sucks when one does.

You know I did do something a little different. A day or two beforehand I topped off the tank with city water. I used that crap that's supposed to "make tap water safe for fish," but it's good enough of a correlation to explain it. I put it into a gallon jug like always and mixed it up beforehand like always, but now it's a different city supply. I used to live in downtown Orlando but now I live in south Oviedo, and that could just be enough of a difference.

These fish have lived through three moves, several days without power, and abandonment in my old house for a few days without power or food. They've really been troopers. I've lived at my current place for about six months now I think, and this just came out of the blue to me.

It sucks. It doesn't suck like losing a relative or a significant person in your life. It sucks like bombing a test or getting your bicycle stolen. I've seen worse, and I'm sure I'll see even worse, but it still sucks.

P.S. The gallon jug used to hold distilled water, not milk, and it's the same jug I've always used.

When I was young I had a goldfish that died. I started crying when I was washing out its bowl.

My dad said, "You don't cry over a fish!" - That was the end of that.

A few weeks ago I brought my tank to my friend's house, and in the process of cleaning the tank the other three died. It sucked, but now I have a Yorkie puppy, and it's the cutest animal on earth!!!!11111111

Goldfish suck! My 6 year old son enjoyed sending those down the toilet once they died.

We now have other fish who aren't as stupid.
