My friend died last night

One of my friends died last night in a single car crash. His name was Derek. http://www.channel3000.com/news/13974347/detail.html is the only story on it so far.

I got invited to a large party a few blocks from my house, so I called him and he came to it. we have a grand ol time at the party, and then I left at some early hour in the morn. I guess when he left, he didn't make it home. I feel partially responsible because I invited him to the party. He'd still be alive if I hadn't called him.

Yes he was, and he knew he could have stayed at my place. I have plenty of couches. He's stayed over before when he was too drunk to drive. I don't know why he didn't last night.

Man, that really sucks. Please, don't get too down on yourself, he made the decision as well to go to the party, you had no way of knowing what would happen later on.

Sorry that happened, but don't beat yourself up about it. Shit happens and what matters is what you do with your life & treat those around you.

You didn't tell him to drive drunk, didn't tell him to speed, etc...

I know how you feel. I lost my best friend years ago under similar circumstances. The best advice that I can offer is to forgive yourself and seak closure. You might also want to donate some time or money to a worthy cause that he wpuld appreciate.

You were in no way responsible for his death. He made the choices that lead to his demise, not you. Still sucks, but you can't feel guilty.

You never know, families have sued places that served alcohol to people who then killed themselves in crashes. So you may at least look up some lawyers just in case

XZeroII could have used more tact, but what he said is no different than what gets said in dozens upon dozens of other threads around here. Those threads may not directly impact an ATOTer, but showing some compassion or respect for the decedent and his or her family goes a lot farther.

It wasn't my party, so I think I'm alright. I don't even really remember where it was.

It's starting to sink in a bit now. I still find it hard to believe.

sucks man but no reason to blame yourself. you had no control...at least he had a good time before he went. my best friend died in a single car crash in high school...just get through the first couple weeks. it gets better from then on. time heals all

sorry to hear that...what we used to do when i partied was that anyone who drove dropped their keys in a basket that was under watch and they couldnt take the car if they drank. Of course a person who was sober was in charge of the keys...worked great...u drank, u called a taxi or slept at the house if that was allowed
