Thread Title: My friend 'hates' God.

I'm sure many people do. I don't hate him, but I certainly don't believe in him.

God doesn't determine your life; You do. I am an atheist, because I don't agree with any religions. (And what's this about Atheism being popular with teens? Trust me, it's not). One of the things about most organized religion is that they will never tolerate other religions. They believe that their ideas are true, and that all other religions' ideas are wrong.

A thing that annoys me about both religious(mainly) and atheists(sometimes) is when they try to convince you that their way of thinking is superior, and that you should subscribe to their doctrine. And when religious people try to 'save' people, and force their religion onto people who are at a 'disadvantage' because of their inferior religion. Why do that? I'm all for discussing different religions, but shoving it down someone's throat is just wrong.

And please stop with the bashing of Religious vs. Atheists. It's similar to picking on someone because of their Race/Sexual Preference

Why can't people learn to tolerate others, and just let each person follow their own religion? Why do you have the need to tell people that their religion is inferior?

He may not hate God as a being, but he may hate him for what he represents. That is, illogical thinking, blind faith, shutting ones eyes from facts etc.

Holy Generalization Batman!

I can not argue that the church has not commited its share of wrong doings in the past.
However, do not let those wrong's overshadows the great things that the church has achieved and done.

I mean, most people here on ATOT are great people.
And i can assurely say that all of us has commited our fair share of wrong doing's and made bad decisions during our time.
So how would we feel if all of our friends/family/people that know us dwells on the bad rather the good of us?

his problems are not theological in nature. based on your synopsis, he seems to be emoting and not thinking, since
there doesn't appear to be any coherent existenstialist rationalizing going on within (not to devalue him !).

don't but heads with him on religious issues !!

But it is one's to choice to follow those verses without reading the entire chapter or even the entire book first.

This is perhaps a bad analogy:

but right now i could claim that "My neighbor killed my dog, poisoned my cat, raped my goat, and burned down my house; i swear i will make his life a living hell"
and anyone can take my claim out of context and simply quote " .... i swear i will make [my neighbor's] life a living hell "
In turn, i end up looking like the bad guy rather than my neighbor.

You are the one who intereprets the meanings of passages in the bible, and if your interpretation of the bible urges for you to go and kill/torture little children, i have nothing else to say.
