It really isn't funny but unfortunately it is becoming more and more true in today's schools. The system is becoming more about teaching PC than the three R's.


Ever wonder why home-schooled children, even if they may know a whole lot more than the average public high school graduate are not able to adapt in society?

It's true. I wasted many many hundreds of hours being force fed french. I have since rejected all I knew upon leaving school and never looked back. As I suspected all of the "This will come in useful" bullsh*t was just that - smelly.

My engineering professors are fond of saying that the things that they teach us are not nearly as important as the general problem solving skills that we obtained. I am sure this holds true with most subjects. School is more about teaching you how to think than it is about teaching you facts.

The three R's are reading, writing and arithmetic.

And yes I know that writing, arithmetic doesn't start with an R but you'll just have to talk to teachers who were using that line when I went to school back in the stone age.

Most of the reason that kids that were home schooled are unable to perform well in society, is that almost all of them come from either strict religious homes where they are taught absolutes, and sheltered. Or, their parents just plain didn't care, and let them do whatever.

I've seen both types, and also those that actually got a HECK of a lot better of an education than any public school could hope to even begin to give kids. I hate it when people bash home schooling, it's turning to be one of the only viable options. I'll be d*mned if my kid is going to go to some inner-city public school, where the only thing you learn how to do is either survive or get into trouble.
