Is this a prebuilt from ibuy power or something? Depending on price, it is a decent build except the gpu is underpowered. A 500 watt psu is ok, but it would be better to have a known quality brand.

It's about middle of the road, the lack of a SSD is a big hit to how fluid and responsive the OS will be, and the GTX950 is a fairly mediocre video card which means you'll need to sacrifice a lot visual settings in your games and gaming above 1080p certainly wont be an option.

Looks like a prebuilt system. The most lacking item is the GPU, which is pretty low end.

Yea, Better to go with a better GPU and an SSD .. also, who makes the power supply, generic noname 500 watt generally use cheap caps and dont last for very long.

Its not bad, but, I'd spend less and go with an i5, and put the $$$ saved into better GPU and SSD.

Lowering to 8GB memory could save you a little to get better GPU or SSD. Can always add that memory back in later a lot easier than changing out either of those other parts.

Meh, just needs an SSD. If the 950 will play his games, it'll work. Nobody ever complained about having too much CPU power.

An i7 paired with a GTX 950? That makes no sense. And yeah, no SSD in 2015 is just painful. Also, unless he's getting a particularly good deal, I'd be looking at Skylake, not Haswell.

How much was paid for this system? Cost is a factor in determining "good or bad".

Two things I really really recommend:
-A Solid State Drive. Seriously, the difference is like night & day, and the price per GB is around the 35 cents nowadays.
- Video card. It will be painful when the VR headsets are available early next year and he realizes he won't be able to use it in his 3-month old computer. Switch that to a GTX 970.

Didn't see a price myself, and not sure what a "standard" PSU is.

Does need a SSD in there myself, I would think.

I agree on the Skylake, if building new today.

Or even holding off a little bit.

drop the i7 to a i5 and put the savings toward a better video card and SSD.

I've read where the i5 is the "better value" for gaming as the i7 is significantly more expensive and provides little noticeable improvement in performance over the i5. I, myself would want to go with the i7 for system longevity ... but when you see the price difference I thought twice about it!

I would drop the i7 to an i5 and the 16GB to 8GB to make up monetary room for an SSD and a better video card.
