nVidia managed to get a big imporvement in shader peformance though drivers with the FX quite a while back, but before that Halo was really hard on even the faster FX cards.

As for your 5200, that is great that it suits your purposes nicely, but it is a far cry from what was avalable even when it first came out.

the human eye only registers 20 fps, so as long as its atleast 21, youre ok
And let me guess, your 5200 just happens to get at least 21 FPS?

I can also play halo,
A vanilla 6600 needs to run Halo at 800x600 get any reasonable speed and that's a lot faster than a 5200. A 5200 would likely slideshow the game at 640x480.

I can notice up to about 115fps. Anything below 60 (minimum) is too choppy as far as I am concerned. It's different for everyone.

it depends on the game... in quake3... 100+ was the only way to go.. less than that was just not enough.

I have an old FX5200 that I use as a spare, had to use it a month back and I was astounded at how well it worked. My kids are still running a 9800pro and I'm not even going to think about replacing it until I can get a 6800gt or X800xl for a hundred bucks.

My FX5200 has served me long enough. I just ordered a 6800 vanilla.

Most fighter pilots and F1 car drivers can/will identify images flashed at 1/250 of
a second. We are not all that quick but that is what I've read.

im happy, but i want nfsu2 to play 1280x1024 WITH light trails on.

thats because valve did a proper job with the coding. that game plays nice on most hardware, i take my hat off to valve, that source engine really is a work of art

a friend of a guy in my previous clan was actually running CS:S on (if i remember correctly) a P2 (cant remember the mhz, sorry) and a 32Mb graphics card...heh....and it ran reasonably smoothly apparently...lol.....(of course it looked like CS rather than CS:S but it ran!...lol)

I have heard of such test results, but flashing a single image at in a dark room is very different situation then constantly refreshing a monitor; and even then, the ability to recognize a single image doesn't relate directly to the perception of fluid motion. I have never see average joe results for the same tests, but it seems likely that the average would be at least half that.

On the other hand, I have never seen any tests results of fighter pilots or F1 drivers to get the illusion of fluid motion, so it is hard to say what it takes for that. However, Considering most people I know don't even notice the difference between various console games that run at either thirty or sixty frames a second, I highly doubt that eve fighter pilots would need anywhere close to 250fps.

I'm guessing that the OP's definition of "sweet" is definitely unlike mine... I wonder what the OP would think on my rig: "Holy sh**!! I would NEVER need another computer if I had THIS!!!"...

No need to try to convince us how good the fx5200 is, we all know it sux. I remember I tried HL2 on my old radeon 9000 pro, and it was pretty choppy at 20fps 800x600 medium settings. And that card was better than the fx5200.

How do you figure that? I play CSS online (admittedly it's CSS and not HL2, but same engine, right?) on my 9000 Pro at 1024x768 and I find it very playable with medium settings. It's certainly fast enough to get some fairly serious ownage on..

heh. While I can tell the difference between 20fps and 80fps, I don't find anything below 20 to be prohibitively bad. I remember playing the Original UT with a guy who had a 2mb integrated vpu, his guy would jump forward five feet at a time even on my screen, and this was over a 10/100 LAN, heh. THAT is bad.

Heh, I used to play CS 1.x on my dell laptop, and on good days I'd do some pwnage at 20 fps. But when I upgraded to a new rig and a 9000p (that was back in 2002) CS became a lot more fun and my scores were a lot better. It was good until I tried HL2 and I realized my 9000p wasn't gonna cut it anymore. It's playable but I didnt enjoy it as much until I upgraded.
