My Gainward ti4200 takes acid trips.

Just bought a Gainward 4x AGP 64meg GF4 ti4200 from a guy on ananadtech. The card seemed to work fine, I installed the 41.09 drivers off nvidia.

I played GTA3 and noticed twice the card would freak out and totally turn the monitor weird colors like a tv that was hit by lightining, nothing is readable and the computer seems to lock up. I had to reboot the computer and sometimes it would stay like that upon reset. The only way to fix it would be to turn it off and do a cold boot. Ok, so I thought maybe it was the game. Then just now I went to fire up a dvd and it did the same thing.

Does this sound like the card is junk or maybe is it a driver problem?

I have the abit kt7a, amd 1.4ghz, 512pc133 ram and so on.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

The Gainward 4x AGP 64meg GF4 ti4200 cards have a well known problem that causes a " pink screen of death " or a checker board type of problem. Gainward has been allowing RMA's on these known bad cards.

You should call the RMA dept at 800-539-2273 for Gainward or the guy who sold you the card.

Not really. Gainward is RMA'ing these cards with no problems at all. If the person who sold you the card doesn't give you a refund then just call that RMA number I posted and return it that way.

Same prob here brom, bought it used off of fs/ft and it sucks. I just had to order the Abit off of hotdeals for 114 shipped. I am going to call gainward tomorrow and RMA it, then I can throw it into another one of my rigs.

Now I know why the dude sold it in the 1st place.

Mine used to do it all the time.... but now it hasnt done it in about 5 months.... seems like it stopped once i overclocked... Maybe you should give that a try

Has anybody here RMA'd with Gainward before? I'm curious as to their turn-around time as I am starting to get this a lot more frequently now.

MIne does it even when booting to bios long before the OS takes over.

I RMA'd a defective 4200 to Gainward just a few weeks ago, and I got the repaired card back 8 days later

u thyink they will bust my chops if I take my TT g4 cooler off and ship it back with no cooler on the GPU?

Edit, just called, gave me RMA # right away and then I mentioned UPS pickup, so they said to fax a ltter over to them and they wil pick it up no problem. Now my only beef is what to do about the g4 cooler since I DO not have the original cooler anymore.

I'm sure it's the card, but do you have the latest bios for the kt7a? It has issues with GF4 cards, listed on their website with the board. You might wanna make sure you have the latest bios for stability.
