damn what a torture... well that's nothing compared to a friend of mine. He got a brand new system a month ago for X-mas present. It's setting in his room all still packaged!!! he is not suppossed to open it until X-mas. i told him that it would be better to buy one when he can use it as it'll have better stuff for lower price but his parents are nutty that way.

It may be wise to test the board first and see if it plays well with your system before you put it under the tree. Otherwise when christmas comes and you might find it doesn't work and it might be too late to return it.

A k6-3+ at 600 mhz is probably alot slower in games than my p3 450(weak fpu)

looks like you guys dont know about the k6-x+ cpus. Goto AMDzone.com and look in the k6-X forum, you might be supprised. The + cpus have an 0.18 core instead of the .25. Stronger FPU, Part Athlon, And Very overclockable. IF you dont beleive me, go right ahead and see for your self. k6-3+ @600 beats p3 550.

you guys are really stretching this thing, Q3 will run JUST FINE on his k2/3-whatever with his geforce2 gts. i know because i have a k6-2 350 back here that runs Q3 and UT just fine and smooth and all it has in it is a voodoo banshee so stop telling him that his gts wont handle it, he might not get 900 frames at 1258x1200 or whatever but he will be able to play just fine at 800x600

I guess some people just don't have anything better to do. A K6-3 is a realy good proccessor, just not the top of the line. My "Other" PC is a K6-2 350 OC to 400 with a 16MB TNT2 and the only things I have had trouble running at very playable framerates is F1-2000 and Mech4. All it takes is a bit of tweaking the graphics settings and they both run fine though. I would imagine that an OC'd K6-3 with a G-Force Anything would be nice. I am running a Duron 700@900@113F with a Maxi Gamer Cougar PCI! (TNT2 M64) and everything I have runs great. Take 300Mhz and a bit of tech from the processor, Add a BAD ASS GPU and I think it'll be all good.

P.S.
Do you have enough memory??

Also, if you have any freaky problems with reboots or crashes, check around to see that your Mobo is giving the card enough power. I hear that those cards draw a lot of juice.

Hey....Why not open the box gently with a razor blade as not to bring your dads attention to the transparent wrapping and replace it with you existing card. Will he ever notice. On xmas morning you can just pretend that the card in the box is the real thing. Meanwhile, you've been using ya GTS all the time.

Some people think 15 FPS is smooth. Why don't you tell us how many FPS you get instead of giving us "smooth" as your measurement?

I'm running my K6-III+450 at 600 as well. But I coundn't get my GF2 GTS to run at all .. must be one of those AGP power problems .. so I got an MX instead, runs great.
So, maybe this DOES give you a reason to try it first before it's too late for a refund. :-D

Ahh- I remember when I used to play Quake 3 on my Celeron 300 w/ a GeForce SDR at around 35 fps (though I forgot what video quality level I had it at- was custom I think). In any case, he'll be able to run Q3 just fine. UT on the other hand is a bit more CPU intensive than GPU, so I dunno about UT.
