I went out to eat and left her with my friend in her room (with a gate at the doorway). Anyways, one of her roommates come home and my dog thinks it's me and jumps over the gate, down the stairs and pushes past him as he opens the door. She continues to run out in to the street to look for me and yeah...........Struck by the neighbor while she was leaving (after backing out). I rushed back and she was laying motionless on the lawn. Her tongue started getting pale and her breathing heavy and strained so i took her in to the nearest hospital.

She has a collapsed lung and a slightly fractured pelvis (can't have babies normally and will be slightly crooked). They're keeping her overnight and she is stable for now. they're going to keep venting her chest until her lungs heal. Tomorrow morning i gotta get up at 5 and transfer her to a vet for the rest of the afternoon.

so sad =(

~UPDATE~

BAD NEWS

Looks like there was nerve damage (assumption) because the dog isn't going number 2 that easily and doesn't seem to have a lot of control of number 1 either. So the vet suggested surgery which would cost upwards to 6000 (with no guarantee that it will fix anything). Leaving her in this condition seems horrid, so we were thinking about euthanizing her........ =( Anyways, the vet said it could be because she was trained to go outside and such but I think that's kind of a stretch. It probably could be of depression too. But, she's able to move both legs although it hurts like hell and i saw her today for the first time in a week. We decided to let her stay at the vet for another week to see if she shows any signs of getting better or worse before we decide. I already signed the permission slip =(. Siiigh...... just got a car and moving so i don't have that kind of cash to shell out even if I wanted to. The surgery place wouldn't do financing. Feel so bad.....

This thread was far more interesting when I thought it was about your girlfriend getting hit.

Poor thing

So are you going to allow it to breed w/ assistance (since you said it fractured the pelvis or something)?

We don't breed her, but she isn't spayed so the vet was just telling us that if she were to have puppies, she will need surgery to remove the puppies. I'll probably whip out the money to fix her pelvis later down the line (to reduce any slight pain and to fix her walk) when i have a little more disposable cash. But yeah, looks like we're going to let it heal by itself for now. I'm more worried about her lungs and if she has a punctured bladder as well. They couldn't tell at the moment because she probably didn't have anything in her bladder and said it's rare...so here's hoping

Your OP made it sounds like you took her to a normal hospital. Is this the case?

nope, she's staying at an emergency pet hospital and they close during the morning after 7:30am. So I have to pick her up before then to transfer her to a vet clinic...... so more $$$

Change the title of the post..it's misleading. ...ahem

It sucks for your dog though. Was your neighbor driving an SUV?

Wait what? The babies would be crooked or she'll be crooked? I assume the latter. Let's hope noone orders a carfax report on her to see that the frame was bent! Damn unibody dogs!

I'm glad your dog did not die. I lost my dog two years ago, two days before Christmas. Simply canceled and ate $6,000 worth of flights, canceled Christmas. Drank heavily for three weeks, and then realized I felf worse about being responsible for my dog being dead than I felt about the dog being dead. I hope you learned a lesson and shore up your doggy boundaries.

Picked her up from the emergency clinic today and she's better. No pale gums or tongue and her breathing is a lot steadier but still not normal. She's at a vet so that she can stay immobile and given painkillers until her lung and pelvis toughens up.

So, good news i guess. They told me the fractured pelving will cause her to walk crooked and possibly might not be able to jump/run normally. So i'm considering surgery but damn, the price is 4-6k...........Might just do it, some of her uniqueness was how she was able to jump and stand/walk on her hind legs.

Dogs can be retards sometimes...it took me months to break my dog from the running wild habit. He will not cross a street unless I give him a "go ahead."

She sounds like she'll be fine. I would have hated to have those few minutes of seeing a pet injured like that.
