Sure it had, in Ancient Jewish time. God walked among the people, wrestled with Jacob, pulled a fast one on Job with Satan. Sins were reconciled by sacrificing clean animals. Piety was defined by abiding to osbcured laws on diet and properties in Leviticus. Holiness was kept by observing the law and conducting proper sacrifice. Jesus came and undid all that. Laws handed down by prophets, even the Sabbath had to make way for the higher virtue of love for God and love for mankind. And wanking is having sex with the only person I really love.

Who doesn't cut some corners on the rules? No one can really keep them. If it is required to follow everything written in the Bible to have eternal life. Everyone should just give up about now, cause no one can do it. At least I don't uphold my set of things I can do and accuse others who aren't doing exactly what i do as hypocrites.
