My girlfriends EX hates my choice of AMD 1800 +. What do you think?

So I'm about to buy a new computer with the AMD 1800+ processor. My girlfriend consults her ex boyfriend and he says the following:

"and the amd xp chips suck big eggs...we wont even stock them here (we had two here and we spent all our time flashing the bios etc trying to get them to run even half decently. they crashed way way way too much.....dont get suckered by the price, a P4 1.8 is about the same price and 100x more stable...I personally am running a PIII dual 1 gig with a gig of ram, its more than fast enough"

I haven't heard complaints about the AMD until this. Anyone have any comments?

Well, for one, the reason that a system crashes is more due to the MB than to the CPU.

As for the AMD XP's being junk, that is just one big fat load of hooie <sp>.

Anyway, I just built a systems with an Athlon XP 1900+ and I am very happy. As long as you buy a quality motherboard and power supply the systems will be VERY stable. The Athlon XP runs VERY hot, but who cares? As long as it's stable it can get as hot as it wants too as far as I'm concerned!

Get the Athlon, save some cash and take your girlfriend out with the money saved. Then let her know her Ex was wrong and because you're smarter you where able to treat her to a night out!

Agreed there with Sukhoi. He probably doesnt know what he's doing. Flashing a BIOS on an older board to get a new CPU to work is part of being an enthusiast!!

I have built many athlon-powered systems over the last 3-4 years, and I have seen them get more and more stable as better & better chipsets have been released. I am currently running an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ on my MSI K7N420 (nForce), and I can't recall it ever crashing; I am being serious here. I have been using this board/cpu for the past 6 months, and this board is rock-solid!
