Frankly, he put on a good act and I didn't realize what had happened until about 10 minutes later. Then I realized I'd got taken.

Now I play online poker and take strangers' money to get revenge
What did happen? You've lost me.

Yeah, I don't know about that. Five people, and they can't come up with $30 between them??!

I've heard it too many times: I ran out of gas, could you give me $5? I offer to top them off with the gas can that I keep in the back of my truck, but I've never had anyone accept. I even had one guy tell me he had a diesel. I asked him what kind of car he had and he began to laugh and told me it was a Buick or something.

I have had two guys accept my offer to buy them food. Everyone else who told me they were hungry weren't interested in the offer.

Should I even bother with this name and number I was given? More likely than not, it's probably made up anyways.

Im not pissed im out $30. I'm pissed that he was THAT guy. You can say that I'm too gullible, that I'm too easy going, whatever... Fact is, I like helping people and I hate that I allow myself to get walked on because of that.

It's a lesson learned, which is an important one to learn since I want to be a cop. I just like helping people, and want to believe that most people have good intentions. Hopefully this is the last time I allow myself to be walked on.

^^^^ Werd.

I once gave a homeless woman $30 for school supplies for her kids. I knew it wasn't a scam because she was literally on her knees begging me. And I got help for my need almost immediately!!!!

The children, I'm all about the children.

Immediate... help for your need... by a homeless woman on her knees? Either she was a cheap hooker or you should rephrase.

I feel sorta bad too. I paid a homeless guy 60 dollars to mow my lawn. I went to shake his hand at the end and noticed track marks on his arm. I originally put $20 in the craigslist ad, but I thought I'd help him out because he was homeless. I kinda wondered why he would travel 20 miles just to mow my lawn.

I hope it doesnt.

Thanks everyone for not bashing me about it. I still have this guy's name/number. Is it even worth it trying to call him?

Well you know what they say... if you lend someone $30 and you never see them again... it was probably worth it.

But I do hope the guy does the right thing.

Just let the deadbeat go....

 Props for doing the nice thing, though.

No I wasn't. I came in last night since I bowl in a league out there and before we started I searched the parking lot for the car (we still had the car info at the front counter) and couldn't find it. I then asked if there was anything left for me at the counter and everyone working up there said no.

There's a sucker born every minute.

I live in a nice part of town and 50% of the time I walk on the street I get someone asking for money for some elaborate reason. Hell, it even happened last night. The default answer is "no."
I've got some stories.

The only nice thing I've ever done was a buy a homeless guy a $1.50 cup of coffee on a cold day.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Just cause one person is messed up like that doesn't mean that everyone else is also. But it doesn't mean that everyone else is good also.

Cheap?

My coworker had a train schedule and they are about $5 each for where the guy had to go. He said there were about 5 people total (I saw 3, but he said people were coming to pick him up and go with him on the train).

Like I said, if I don't get reimbursed, then it's a $30 lesson.

Why couodn't the people coming to pick him up from, a %4 train ride (which was obv very short) just pick him up there?
