People with 3.5+ GPAs (in science and engineering majors) How many hours/week do you spend studying?

BTW, if you're in high school, I don't care about your GPA at all, don't bother posting it.
I thought you were heading to Med School?
I got in with about that GPA, but college was ten years ago for me, so the school gave me a break.

Headed to the islands it sounds like. Hear they'll take anyone with a pulse/.

That's pretty low... what university do you go to? It might help if you go to a prestigious school, but that's still kind of low.

It looks like you haven't taken a whole lot of classes. Do better in the rest and then you can say that you did better in the last 3 or 4 semesters. You can say that you had an upward trend in your GPA. So if a company asks for your GPA you say what it was but then say in the last so and so semesters I had a 3.0 or whatever GPA. If you're worried about graduate schools, you can include a letter stating this, too, but they might notice it themselves.

This should make you guys feel good. I got a 1.22 first GPA. PreCalc here is 5 Units and I failed. The teacher is an asshat and failed 3/4th the class. Everyone else got As.

I also got a C- in speech

I'm heading to sopohmore year with a 1.85 cumulative though....it's slowly going up, and I'm going to be doing academic renewal (replace grades) on some classes.

I've noticed that I'm REALLY lazy. Lazy throughout my life actually....I've never really worked hard on anything. It's time to take things seriously though.

What's with all these people saying they only study a few hours per week and have a 3.8+? I only have like a 2.7 and I study all the fricken time! I study 1-3 hourse just before dinner! I have sucky time management skills and I'm easily distracted too. Damn.

There is your problem.

this couldn't have anything to do with your suckass grades? could it?

Ouch... you guys are cruel...

Low GPA isn't the end of the world. I graduated with a 2.95something, got a good job AND got into grad school without much heartache... while it's always better to have a higher GPA, it will only REALLY hurt you if you're going to continue on with education (med school/law school/etc.) After the first job, it's pretty much just a formality (e.g, "Got a bachelors? good. So what can you do?")

Or that's how it's worked out for me, anyway...

I generally dont spend too much time... For something like a 16 hour class work load, I'd spend anywhere from 8 hours to 30 hours a week, depending on the class. There are a few classes I study my rear off and there are others that i dont really work to hard and I generally maintain a 3.6 to 3.7.

PS. I'm a comp sci major in College of Eng at UIUC

I've found that interest and the school makes a huge difference. I transferred from a respected University to a no-namer. I had about a 2.85 at A&M, and finished with about a 3.55 at SHSU. I didn't enjoy my classes at A&M and knew that it wasn't the field for me. I didn't overly enjoy my classes at SHSU, but I knew it was the field I wanted to be in. I put more dedication into my studies when I knew they were working for a career.

The difference in quality between the two Universities was pretty amazing. A degree is not the same among Universities, and I feel that I sacrificed the quality of my education by transferring. I learned a hell of alot more with a lower A&M gpa. I wish I didn't have to transfer.

2.2 isn't horrible, it's average. Nothing wrong with that.

3.06 first semester, 2.72 second semester. First half of second sem I didn't study and skipped most classes, failed 2 midterms, then I started studying (on average) 3 hrs/day. After first year ECE, my cumulative GPA is 2.89. Its not bad, but not that good. I am hoping I can take it up a notch (3.3-3.5) next year.
