Sweet Jesus, I'm sorry that Planet Shitness has devoured your gym. Let me tell you first hand that it is the worst place to go if you are a male. I'm in good shape, played college sports, and appreciate working out really hard. I'm quiet at the gym, I don't bother anybody, and I don't hog any particular weight station for more than a reasonable amount of time.

I've had the Lunk Alarm sounded on me several times and it is the most god damned infuriating thing ever. But besides that horse sht, they don't offer dumbbells over 65 lbs. Now, here's the insanity, if your gym had dumbbells over 65lbs, they take them out! F that noise, the Galactus of gyms has spoken, and it demands that you surrender your balls until further notice. Also, as a side note, they have pizza night every month. GD pizza, free pizza, at the gym...that is heinous.

I will admit I miss lifting at a health club..thats what I did for employment when I was younger.

Hope you find a place you like.

I'd say they'd enforce that just as much as my gym enforces the no cellphone rule. Poorly.

I go to Planet Fitness. It's a nice little gym, and I've never heard the "lunkalert" alarm go off, so I wouldn't be all that concerned.

Hehe, even my Xsport gym goes up to 150. I get free pizza at the end of the month too. I'm no health nut so I like to down a half of a pie after a good workout

Hey!

I was thinking of joining a gym near my house, but it was too expensive.
So what I did was - creating my own gym. Well not exactly my own gym, but I found lots of exercising videos referral removed and made myself my own fitness program.
I recommend you to do the same, it can help

Good luck

heard similar about the planet fitness near me. if you're a serious lifter, this will be the final nail in the coffin. no grunting, dress code and the other BS is absurd as is, but you might be able to tolerate it given that memberships are often dirt cheap. but *severely* limiting the weights available is a clear shot at real lifters and is just unacceptable.

A no grunting rule is ridiculous. If you can't grunt you can't get the most out of your lifts. If you can't drop weights, you can't get the most out of your lifts. Why would I pay them money for them to tell me to be quiet and don't do your best? F that. Build a gym in your garage, go to a gym where powerlifters go, or hit up a CrossFit affiliate. They won't mind you pushing yourself to the limit.

I see the switch for the "lunk" alarm on the off position every time I walk pass the front desk.

That being said, I have never heard the alarm go off for the year i've been a member.

I'm serious about fitness but I wouldn't call myself a serious lifter. I'm not a Body Builder but I do work out with weights as part my my fitness routine. If it's just the dumbells they limit that's not a concern as I only use them for some bicep and shoulder exercises due to a herniated disc in my lower back (lifting them wasnt the problem, getting them into position to lift them was). Now if they limited the amount you can use with the Barbells then that would be a definite problem.

I'll check it out and see what's up, if it's bullshit or too crowded I'll just use another gym.

Well I checked it out and it is bullshit, hell worse than what people here said it was. Not only did they take away all dumbells over 60 lbs but all barbells, benches and the majority of equipment that used plates and the the plates they left were only 10 pounders:shocked:

You know what really sucked though, the old management was signing people up for 1,2 and 3 year memberships up to a week ago without even informing those new members of the change. I heard that on Friday afternoon/evening they had to call the cops because there was a near riot when they started taking out the equipment. I'm glad I signed up only for a month to month when my membership ran out last June because word is to get out of your membership there you have to buy your way out, $100 per year you have left on your membership. I find that hard to believe and it may just be an exageration but when I consider all the other bullshit that went along with this Planet Fatass..err.Fitness debacle I wouldn't put it past them.

Well time to check out other gyms.

Wow! That is way, WAY worse than I would've expected. They took out ALL benches AND barbells AND there are no plates over 10 lbs?!? How are you supposed to even get healthy if there isn't enough weight to actually push yourself?

And there's no way they can get away with making people buy out their contracts when they weren't told what they'd be dealing with. There'll be a lawsuit, there has to be.

What a joke. I can't even comprehend this business model. It's like opening a restaurant, but only offering spoons, appetizers, and tables with one seat.

Since it is a new gym they might just be changing up equipment....never know.....My planet fitness has DBs of 80lbs and has 2 squat racks and 3-4 benches......

Just wait a couple days and see if they bring in some new stuff

Not according to the desk jockey who I talked too yesterday. No new weights, or equipment and at the facility they are building no BB's, Machines that use weight plates and no DB's over 60 lbs. He actually called it "Elementry Fitness" what ever the fuck that is:roll:

No problem, I have a couple of gyms to check out in my locale that will only charge $20 a month with no enrollment fee if I sign a two year contract. They don't have free pizza like Planet Fatass..er..Fitness but I guess that's something I'll have to live with.

On your last day you should horde all the 10lb plates, load as many as you can on a machine/bar and proceed to grunt/yell while lifting ..... just to make a scene ...
Go out in a big way... haha
