My Hard Drive is Dying

This morning I tuned on my comp, and instead of booting normaly, the monitor remained in sleep mode and the hard drive was emitting a strange clicking noise. Now, I assume that this is the dreaded "clicking sound of death" so I'm currently backing up all my files. The hard drive is a western digital caviar drive and it is about 2 years old. This is a little early for a HD to fail isn't it? And, how long does a HD emitting the "clicking sound of death" typicaly live?

ye thats rather early, but it happens. Life expectancy could be anything form an hour to a week.....though i think one or two days might be your best bet

No, Its not under warranty anymore, but it hasen't done it since then and it seems to run just fine so maybe it was just a random thing?

Backup anyways, it could just die randomly despite it not making that noise. Take the opportunity of if not clicking as an advantage because when it clicks, it usually slows data recovery and may not let you copy off of it at all.
