my hard drives(benchmarks) slowed down after installing a new sata II controller.

I have a asus K8S-MX mobo, which is sata I.

I got a new SSD and have a older western digital drive. So I thought I'd speed things up some and get a new sata II controller card. I bought a rosewill RC-211 card from newegg. No raid running.

I got it up and running, then checked hdtune and crystal disk mark to see how it was doing. It was much slower. the HDD and SSD both topped out about 75 mb/s. Which is much slower than what they where with the the mobo's sata I. flashed the bios and updated the drivers and it didn't help any. I tried running in both windows 7 and windows XP, on different hard drives.

I called rosewill, they said as longed as it worked, at all, they couldn't help. any suggestions of what I could try?? thanks.

You're using a discrete storage controller, so any options for AHCI will be in your storage controller's BIOS, not your motherboard's.

second rosewill (=no name) is almost never bertter than decent onboard SATA controller. If it is using PCI bus, then it is pointless as it is limited to 133MB/s

I have the RC-213 which is similar but with raid. It uses the same SiI3132 chipset.

Just ran HDtune and here's what I get. The drive is a Caviar Green 1tb.

What kind of numbers were you expecting?

Did you use drivers off the disk? I use the ones built into Windows. My card is listed in device manager as: Silicon Image SiI 3132 SoftRaid 5 Controller

Rosewill simply slapped their name on a reference Silicon Image controller, so it wouldn't be any better or worse than an onboard SATA controller.

It's a PCIe 1x card, so although it's not as bottlenecked as a PCI card would be, it's not going to be capable of delivering 300MB/s.

with the ssd drive I was getting 130 mb/s on hdtune.
NOW, with the rosewill card hdtune says around 75 mb/s.

wth the western digital drive I was getting 100 max mb/s and 86 avg. Now, with roswill card it max's out at around 70 and stays there.
