Its a rental and the landlord is in Florida.If its a house I would also turn the water off at the main and drain the lines before they freeze as well. Don't want to go from bad to much worse.

This. Here it's illegal for a landlord to not have working heat.If you can't reach him, go ahead and get it fixed and deduct the cost from your next rent check.
