Other then the FOP 32 and 38 is there any other heatsink i can attach a 80mm fan too without that fan expander thing? ever since I saw that massive heatsink/fan in the anandtech review I have been wanting a 80mm heatsink/fan combo.

mastertech

this is definitely not an intel vs AMD thread.

how would you feel if any time someone mentioned any of the numerous problems intel has had recently a troll would come in and shout, see that's why you should by APPLE.

sheesh, mastertech, i must say, you are the biggest hypocrite on in anandtechland. If you really believe your own verbiage than you should be selling your clients MACs not PC's.

I have an FOP38 & I just got my Sanyo-Denki 92mm fan & fan guards from 2cooltek-hooked it up and at idle my temps were about 5 deg. C higher than on my FOP38 & then I started Quake Team Arena and in about 2 min I got a BSOD-rebooted and temp in BIOS was close to 50 deg. C-needless to say my black label delta is back on.

hey people, let's all be civilized. This thread regards heatsink/fan noise. Why don't we just limit posts to the stated subject and set aside the petty bickering?

-This is not for the sake of arguing. But a stock intel boxed heatsink and fan can keep a 1GHz P3 under 45 degrees. Quiet too. It is so much less hassle using Intel. No special fans just stock parts. That is all.

This guy asks how to make his system quieter and your suggestion is that he buy a new motherboard and processor?

I'm sure he finds that advice very helpful.:disgust:

Well a stock fan on a 1ghz Tbird will keep it cool, too. You don't need a special fan. I don't know why Bgskier got the FOP 32 if he isn't overclocking.

I don't think the Delta fan is necessary unless you're aiming for the upper end around 1.3-1.4Ghz. Its a moot point comparing it to the P3- if you want to run a T-bird at 1Ghz, the retail sink/fan will be fine

It would take divine intervention for a high percentage of P3s to hit 1.2Ghz, much less overclock it higher, while it is easily attainable with a good T-bird and good cooling.

If your FOP32 is too loud, you can

1. Do the 80mm fan trick and use a quiet Panaflow fan

2. Buy a quieter 60mm fan

3. sell the FOP32 and buy a stock Taisol 742

I've a 32 fan on my heatsink for my OCed PIII 700 which likes to run extremely hot, waaaay hotter than any OCed AMD chip I've dealt with. The noise is definately starting to wear me down but I do not want to run the risk of overheating the CPU. So I've been reluctant to do anything about it. I'm considering adding a voltage toggle switch to my case so I can have the extra cooling ability only as I need it or just rigging up a 80mm fan and some sort of shroud. But as you see my system is overclocked and, bgskier, yours is not. Sell that heatsink and get something quiet!
