I'm guessing that he knew that the clock would roll back an hour at 2:00 a.m., and thus did his mysterious change at 1:27, which was actually 2:27 - after the changeover?

Ahh, you got me Dan. Fusetalk rolls back every year at 2am Eastern, so I always use the occasion to hijack a thread or two(if you become the first post, you get to edit the title), and "predict" what other people will say.
