Congrats mechBgon! By my estimate I came on at about the same time as you on the same project!

And I have a trivia question as well.

Who built the first TA DC crackrack, and who coined the term crackrack?

Ray, you're getting slightly senile. It was The Mad Rifter, as in Lord Demios/TMR.

However, I'll defer to my elder for the next question.

The first crack rack? I'm tempted to say Cautry with the Warp Core, but that's probably not right. Damn, I'm getting forgetful in my old age.

Russ and the Warp Core (Celeron 300a and Tyan dualies). Throw in the first incarnation of Arctic Silver, and you have history.
That's about the same time I started using the term "asslaminate" when I snagged a new CPU for the RC5 cause.

Who was known for their hobby of building potato cannons?

Finally one I can answer. Brad M.

The Warpcore project was originally intended to be a Beowulf cluster, but when checked against the definition, didn't quality. What was it classified as instead?

Well, you guys are partially correct. The first crackrack was The Warp Core, but the person who built it and also coined the term was Thomas Drechsler, aka The MagicMan.

What DC project did the Warp Core run?

It better be RC5-64, or I'm going to feel like the villiage idiot.

Yep. RC5-64.

And I can't remember what we called the crackracks once it was determined that beowolf didn't quite fit.

(*sigh*, along with so many other things forgotten.... )

Well, cool, "WarpCore" for RC5-64 was my guess too as I was reading through the thread. At least I don't have to worry about the "village idiot" description taking hold.. there's too many other descriptions that would fit.. most stemming from my encounter with eBay and SETI simultaneously.

I know it's been a while since I posted here, but I also just realized that I have been here a long time as well.

5 years already. 6 years on Anandtech. Perty cool...

Oh, and who will post the ViRGE vs. Team Anandtech members IRC thread.

Right, ViRGE, we had "herds".

Okay, I need to admit that my earlier answer didn't just come to me. I had happened upon a saved copy of the "Phantom Flusher" thread the other day. Did we ever figure out where those blocks came from?

And since no one else has posted a trivia question, here's one:

Who got irritated (naturally) when we started referring to the Phantom Flusher as "PF"?

That would be Possessed Freak if memory serves correctly.

I had forgotten about the Phantom Flusher. I certainly never found out. We suspected various things, like it was someone submitting falsified RC5 blocks to discredit us or someone who was using computers without proper authority. Hasn't the statute of limitations run out now? Whoever you are, if you are still around, let us know.

I hadn't forgotten about the Phantom Flusher :|

I ended up abandoning my original DNET account and starting over because of the #*#$*&$#. :|

If you look at the TA DNET RC5-64 stats, the Phanton Flusher :| account was my original one. I looked it up the other day to figure out when I started crunching RC5-64.

And no, we never found out, and IIRC DNET never said much about whether the blocks submitted were legit or not.
