Ha ha, my traceroute at home spans the entire frickin' continent! :thumbsup:

There are 21 hops, starting in Irvine, CA, going to Fort Walton Beach, FL, up to northeast Manitoba, on the shores of Hudson Bay, then west to Cranbrook, BC, east a little to Calgary, west to Surrey, and finally to Burnaby, BC, where I live. It only points to the center of the city though, not specifically where I live.

Work was way off (it plotted the center of Vancouver; I work in Burnaby).

I don't pretend to know anything about IP addresses, but from reading the posts here, the traceroutes seem to be horribly inefficient. Ex: gsethi's route, instead of simply going north from So. Cal to the Bay area, travels the perimeter of the continental US! WTF?

A lot of them originate in CA (why is that?) regardless of the final location. Shouldn't they start in the same country where your ISP is located? ie. I'm in Canada on a Canadian ISP, and another poster here is even farther away, in NZ.

Just wondering.
