God I hope some day that I can get something that is even REMOTELY awesome like that. Not even close to size, but something that would get me as excited as seeing those pictures.

I'm in awe.

The problem with a house like that is you need staff to keep it up, including a house manager that is on site at least 5 days a week. It kinda puts a damper on your privacy.

Personally? It's nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

A younger brother.

I'm my brother's kid brother because I'm the youngest... and I'll be 40 this year.

haha the breakfast "nook" is bigger than my living room

but thats a seriously impressive house. how much would something like that cost? 10 million?

I never asked. (Asking things like that is a faux pas in my family) Probably in the neighborhood of 15 million before decorating and artwork.

i agree. no point having a lavish house like that if you cant walk around naked in it. a bit too much for me. but maybe my taste will change when i get rich.

The room I like the most is the library.

Agreed! I wish it had more bookshelves though.

LOL, it does, it does. When I took those pics I was focusing on architecture. Not walls with bookshelves. My brothers book collection is nearing 5 figures now.

It's nice, but not over the top.

Pool?
Hot-Tub?
Waterfall into pool?
1/4 acre + lot?
4-car garage?
Maids/in-laws gues home?

From the kitchen pics, it looks like 8 foot ceilings? Yikes.

How many square feet?

And the house is ugly. No offense, but it is.

I should take pics of my in-laws house. The front door cost $20K and the chandelier in the foyer is worth $80K+. The master bedroom is probably 400 sqft with 2 bathrroms, 2 walk in closets and a sitting area and has a $20K+ chandolier in it.
Like I said, they don't flaunt their money. My sister in law actually told me that they aren't building a house for other people to look at, but for themselves to be happy in.

I respect people like that very much. It goes to show that they are level-headed and down-to-earth people

House may be mediocre from the exterior, but the insides are nice.
Her grandfather's main car is still a mid-80's Cadillac Fleetwood.
One of her uncle's didnt follow the old man's path and lives a lavish lifestlye with a huge vintage car collection and a castle-like house. But I don't know him at all, just met him a couple of times. I stayed at her grandparents a few times. If you didn't know, you'd never guess the kind of money they were worth.
Funny thing is, my sister-in-law couldn't wait to get rid of her last name. She was thrilled when she got married so she could change it. She said it always used to draw unwanted attention to her. They really try to live under the radar.

Sometimes life just ain't fair.

Everything is a mess because he's still moving in, and alot of stuff is still unfinished.

Entrance
Kitchen
Kitchen 2
living room
Unfinished master bath
Front Exterior
Front Exterior 2
Upstairs hall

I didn't post pics of the dining room, study, family room, or any of the bedrooms because everything was a huge mess.

It is very nice. Probably something I would build for myself if I had money. I wouldn't over do it like Amused's brother, but not that there is anything wrong with that.

500K US gets you a shack in the ghetto in Los Angeles, and a very large house in most other places.

BTW, your house, or your PARENT'S house?

this threads makes me wanna rethink my philosophy...

"hard work pays off later but laziness pays off now"

granted the fact that some people are just more lucky than others

Hey ThePresence, just out of curiosity, what does your brother do for work for his grandparents in law?

Sorry if this has been answered already (don't think it has).

I much rather live in ThePresence's brothers house than Amused's brother's crib.

That's "modest"?

No wonder people today are up to their eyeballs in debt.

This is modest, though it's a family home, two or three kids and a pet in addition to a couple. For a young couple without kids, this is closer to modest.

Sheesh.
