Are the Klipsch 5.1s much better than Z560s? I'm not too happy with my Z560's sub..but I have a 12" Pioneer in my car that it's trying to compete against..

Yes, cause I really need a SVS subwoofer in a 1 bedroom apartment at age 21.

You live in an apartment? Roffles. Prepare to meet all your neighbours and your landlord for noise complaints.

Oh, and yes, yes you do need more bass.

I have the lowly Promedia Ultra 2.0s, and they are fantastic. The Ultra 5.1s must be heaven.

what does age have to do with it?

cause age has something to do with where i live. i cannot afford a house at 21.

no house --> pointless to have a SVS

you must mean 2.1?

No, 2.0. No subwoofer, as I live in an apartment and don't want to be rude. But for regular stereo speakers, they sound better than most x.1 speakers.

Actually, they are called Promedia Ultra 2.0 Pro.

I remember when Altec Lansings speakers ruled the PC roost.....got a 2.1 setup with a Dell PC about 6 years ago i think it was......amazing speakers, good quality, with a proper subwoofer (meaning it reached 20hz, a lot of so called subs only hit 35hz and are just bass speakers in boxes). Seriously never heard anything to beat them till the more recent Klipsch type speakers......

However i've finally built up a a decent high quality speaker system for 5.1......with an REL Strata5 subwoofer....oh lord does this thing make waves......it can take most M&K and Cerwin Vega type subwoofers and hang them out to dry!.....it hits a cexy 16hz, has a downward firing 10in bass driver and internal 150watt MOSFET amp
the other speakers arnt bad either...lol
oh and the cutest thing, it has a remote control for its hi and low level connections with a funky blue 4 digit LED on the front

I have an SVS in my 1 room dorm and I'm 21.... and I think you do.

Hey, it's never too early for good bass. I'm 22 and have a velodyne DD12. me loves it.

Here is something to try your little subwoofers out with. The kick drum should be very tight yet the bass should move air around the room and move you too!

I've said it before, but... The tweeters on the Klipsches die way too easily, and the sub can't go low enough/hard enough. It's very tight and controlled, though, if you play music/movies it likes. Same with the tweeters. If you play them at lower volumes and/or dont play anything too harsh, they'll be beautiful. But not once you turn them up.

...That's not to say the Logitechs are perfect, either, because they don't sound as good as the Klipsches when both are new. They do hit lower and harder on the subwoofer end of things, but the sound is a bit muddier... The sats aren't as clear/detailed, either.

If you arent a fan of serious volume/clarity/durability, either set works.
If you are, build a real system.

I'm sorry, your Altec Lansing speakers came nowhere near 20Hz

I'm thinking about purchasing a system in the near future.

There's no competition, Klipsch can't be beat.
Surely you jest.

Loud is beautiful... but only if it's clean.

True that. Hell, my Athena As-p400 100watt RMS (400peak) 10'' sub can only hit 23 Hz at 3dB, and, realistically, it can only maintain a low of 27-30 Hz?

NO WAY IN HELL that anything from Dell can do that. That said, I used to have a 4.1 v. 1 Promedia set and although the bass was nice and tight, it only did about 35hz?just LOUDLY. I had a friend who had the 5.1s, and although their horns were fantastic, the bass was nothing special.
