I do but not on everything..

Isn't it great when the power goes out and all your UPS's start beeping at the same time, and there's no way to make them stop?

is her apartment zoned commercial? is she paying commercial rates?

i hate when someone says "i runa business and i'm gonna sue you" while paying residential fees. you want 'business level' guarantees? pay for it.

We have commercial zoning and I pay an arm and a leg to be here. My point was that a simple knock on my door and giving me 5 minutes to properly shut everything down would have been nice !

dont get me wrong... i wasn't busting your chops.. (ya know i love ya!) just the "sue 'em all" reference. I work PC support for a major company, and everyone screams "i'm losing money for my business i'm going to sue" while paying residential rates... it annoys me...

Thats what I said... I didn't say sue him... but he should be aware of the consequences of his actions and incurred liabilities.... likely his insurance would pay for it.... esp if he doesn't give anybody a resonable warning before shutting the power off...

Considering that his brother in law is one of my biggest local competitors I could probably have a good case. However, I think he was just having a clueless moment, nothing is damaged and a bit
of ranting fixed my mood

I've seen that happen before.

It helps to work on a laptop.

That's against the law here in Oregon. Landlords are required to give 24 hour notice in order to even show up on site if it's not for a social visit.

nik, I doubt unless the landlord entered the building he needed any permissions at all, could be wrong though. Here in illinois it seems to be legal for them to just enter anyway, at least they do with my apartment....

Besides what would have happened during the next power outage

Nope. Here in Oregon, Landlords of appartment buildings are required to leave notice 24hrs ahead when they are going to directly affect the renter (i.e. service disruption of any kind or appartment inspection for whatever reason, etc). If it's a landlord of a house, duplex, mobile home, or something similar where you have the "complex" to yourself, they are required to give notice 24hrs before they come on site. All this, of course, unless he's coming over for a social visit or something.

lol....he seems ugly ....

what happened to me is that last year I was going through a break-up with my g/f
and of course there were long discussions and more than once my tub overflowed and leaked water to the apt. below
the tenants were pissed off and I had no x-planation.

it did help that she was a lady

but my last landlord was just a lackey for a big firm ....
I lost my whole fuc*ing security deposit = $ 650. jus' for not letting them know 1 month in advance that I am shifting out
