So you people don't talk about your day? IE "Small Talk"? I guess when you live in "The Big City" you are more busy talking about violence, police brutality, the last time your car got stolen.

I remember back in 1989 I stopped in at the local co-op to get some dog food and the locals were all huddled around the counter, talking 'bout that new fangled electric stop sign that was just installed down at the corner.

Seems at regular times, there was this light that would change from green to yella to orange and then back again. Weirdest thing ever! There wasn't even a guy there to flip a switch or anything, it just "knew" when to change colors.

Still freaks me out to this day.

My MIL is from FL and does the same thing. She'll go on and on and on and on about nothing. This is no joke - in the past she would ramble on, barely taking a breath, for well over 30 minutes straight. When we first started dating my wife would get a call from her late in the evening (10pm-ish, my MIL is a night owl), and wake up at 3am with the phone on her chest because she fell asleep while her mother was talking.

She seems to have improved in this regard, she no longer calls late at night and when my wife talks to her, she does at least get some words in occasionally.

It really is impressive, the ability to ramble on for hours when there's nada going on in your life. The best part of "breaking up" is that there are no more daily hour long phone calls or hundred texts a day - my wife spoke to her so much that I had to think about the MIL every day, part of the problem

In some parts of the Midwest people keep mostly to themselves the significant aspects of their lives and it is considered improper to spill your guts to anyone you're not very close with.

Hmm, I suppose I posted another thread about my inlaws because this is a free country, at least from what I recall... I'll be sure to private msg you for permission before posting in the future! Thanks, sir!

All you had to write was.

My redneck inlaws living in hicktown thought discussing a visit to a bank and having to take 10 dollar bills was a big exciting affair to them and spend all day talking about it. Why are these people so lame?

end of cliff-notes. Btw the apple does not fall far from the tree.

Not at all, while I suggested a "time out," I clearly told her that I wouldn't be upset if her parents visited tomorrow if they chose to reconcile. It's all on her terms, she's more pissed than I am after realizing that her mom discouraged her from doing what she loves her entire life, all for selfish reasons ("I"M the artist in the family, not you.") There was other stuff as well that I'm not talking about, like warping our new couch by putting all 300 pounds of her weight on an arm, repeatedly after we told her not to and parenting our kid repeatedly, which we asked her not to. She likes to start shit.

A snippet from the OP...

(I bet it has more to do with them being right wing christians than their zip code, to be honest)

I've read a few replies to your OP, including some of your replies. What exactly does the above snippet have to do with telling long, boring stories? Or are you just another bile-spewing liberal atheist, like so many that inhabit P&N?

Yeah, your in-laws sound rather dull. But maybe they're content with their uncomplicated lives and don't walk around with a perpetual stick up their a** like you do.

Well, her church services are long and boring maybe that's where she learned it... Mostly I was referring to my prior threads, they (my inlaws) are pretty heartily lgbt and they're the ones who quote the bible to "prove" their point. In fact, I'm rather positive they mention it on purpose to egg us on (for reference, her cousin was disowned and no one attended his gay wedding). I rarely bash christianity because I'm a church goer myself (grand dad a minister, one who respected all faiths and was pretty liberal and ahead of his time). So apologies if I offended, I have *Nothing* against Christianity, just how some people follow it. Same way I have nothing against islam, but how some people pervert it. Not to derail, I"m pretty much done venting but I'm obviously unemployed and have time on my hand

I can think of some bible verses you should read that will show you how to treat your MIL.

I wasn't offended. I haven't read your other posts, so the comment seemed totally out of the blue.

You know why people from "the middle of nowhere, USA" like to blow shit up, shoot guns, and race everything on wheels? Because that's all there is.

You guys are so easily offended, just like my MIL. If someone asked me why NYers were assholes I wouldn't be offended, I may punch them, but I wouldn't be offended

Homerboy wasnt offended, he just wanted to share his opinion with the world. He is kind and gentle and likes to share. That warmth is typical of mid-westerners. Most of us value kindness above correctness. I happen to be an ass, so I do not fit in so well sometimes. Ohh well.

Woaw, she passive aggressively posted this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?....319545694777895.69978.100001674019975&type=3

Basically repeating what you said, kindness is more important than being right. What a weird world that is, right and just is far more important than warm fuzzies to me. Why does everyone have to be nice? If you're so nice, how can you rectify your hatred of others (such as the lgbt bigotry). Is that "nice?"

We just like to annoy supposed "enlightened" big city folk.

I genuinely think she and her father in particular are fucking with me, the rant he went on about two men kissing was atrocious and why mention that? I never bring up anything, they little pick hot button topics to tick me off. Like saying "beloved patriot" repeatedly around me, a descendent of towel heads

The bible does have it's share of long, boring stories. Don't get me wrong, there are kickass stories in there as well with whales, giants, decapitations, and cool stuff like that but by and large, there's a whole lot of begatting and sermonizing to wade through to get to the good parts. Sort of like Avatar.
