Thanks for the words everyone. I spoke with a lawyer (who ironically, I met while in rehab as his 8yr old daughter had broken her neck too).
Few things:
Don't sign anything.
Don't pay anything but the premium.
It's my parent's problem ultimately (not that I'm dumping it on them, I'm fighting this)
My lawyer should have notified the ins. co. of the settlement. It's malpractice if he didn't. He can be sued if that's the case.
If he did, it's the ins. co.'s problem. I'd be in the clear.
Statue of limitations. Could be too late for them.
They can't get a dollar from me, unless they sue me, which is unlikely. I dont have a lump sum in the bank, the homeowner's ins owns the settlement. I own $1k a month. Its not worth it for them to go after me, nor is it to go after a HUGE insurance company for whatevers left.
Just a few quick ideas he ran by me. He's putting me in touch with someone better qualified, as he's a criminal lawyer in Orlando, FL.
Of course, you'll all be updated as things progress.
