I've been fortunate enough to have been able to avoid such situations personally, but I have seen how high medical bills can be for incidents that are of no fault to the victim. A friend of mine ran a bill of over $50,000 (small relatively speaking) for some minor surgery to correct a throat disorder, but she had insurance which covered it. Too often people don't have insurance, or in situations such as yours just get screwed over somehow.

We all get handed sh!tty deals in life every now and then. Granted, yours is probably worse than most of ours (at least outside the 3rd world) but time will pass and you'll see better days eventually. Good luck

Damn. You are a stronger person than I. If I were you in your shoes, I'd "replay" that mental image of me diving into the pool, that split-second of joy before unknown catastrophe, over and over in my head that the I'd no doubt commit suicide from guilt. My faith would simply be too weak.

How about contacting local TV or newspaper for human interest story of the little getting trod upon severly by the system, all stemming from some clerical error my some minimum wage staffer that really doesn't give a $hit or is totally clueless to the damage they have done.
