My life sucks.

Hey guys, sorry for the randomness but I feel like venting.

All I've wanted to do my entire life is serve my country(USA). I've had no other plans. It's my senior year in high school so I went to the local Marine Corps recruiting station to enlist.
I went to MEPS(Military Entry Processing Station) nearly aced the ASVAB(Standard aptitude test for enlistment) and breezed through the physical. That is, until the vision test. I've always had bad eyesight, only correctable to 20/40 with glasses. After that long process, I was DQ'd and had to get a note from my eye doctor, and I did. The note stated my nearsightedness, but also recommended me for a waiver, I was denied. For months my recruiters tried everything they could to get me in, but to no avail.
So after that, I went to the ARMY to see what they could do for me, same long process, same denied waiver. So I went to the NAVY with the notion that I would be denied enlistment, but they said they'd try anyway. It's been about 2 weeks now and I have received no word from the Navy. It's a pretty hopeless situation, I have nothing I wish to major in, in college unless I can enter an ROTC program. I'm physically fit, scored pretty well on the ASVAB, but there's nothing I can do even while they call more and more troops overseas. I want to be one of them, I want infantry, I want to serve the United States of America.

google the Johns Hopkins Eye center. Get a appointment, they will get you fixed and then serve our country well!

Wow, I cant believe with as hard up for for people as the forces are they didnt take you because of just poor eye site. You would think at this point you could be half blind in one eye and have a wooden one for the other and they would take you, just as long as you can tell the difference in colors, and a helmet vs a towel your in.

Word of advice. Go Air Force.

If you can't get enlisted, try out for the police academy and then see if you can get a position with the UN Peacekeepers.

My brother used to use some mild drugs to control his ADD (like Ritalin, but not as strong). When he went to the Army to apply, the medical tests came back with some of that drug still in his system, so they sent him home and said to come back in a month to re-test. When he did, they said they had already DQ'd him, and nothing they could do.

So he went to the Navy, which said it'd be fine since they were going to retest him. Unfortunately, they pulled his records from the Army tests, and DQ'd him. Then he got a doctor's note, and went back, and went through a few months of paperwork to get a waiver, and voila, he's down in Mississippi, learning how to dig wells and build stuff with the Seabees.

I would never want someone with bad eyesight in a front line unit with me. I can see why the Marines and the Army denied you, but you could always try the Chairforce.

The best time to serve is when service is needed. I am not lucky at all, I want to be a part of the American tradition of serving my country especially in the Marine Corps, even if I didn't get infantry, I can't believe there's not some job I can still do.

Yea, the best time to join the military is during peacetime. That's when they need you the most. :roll:

Join your local fire department, instead? IMO, you'll be doing much more for your country in a local FD then you'll do for it bleeding to death or blown to bits in the desert.

Haha. I was PDQ'd from military service after acing the ASVAB, getting a 117 on the DLAB (was all set to go learn Arabic), and receiving a college degree. I was told I was unfit to serve. Why? I had passed a kidney stone and the KUB showed I had a tiny stone in my left kidney and two smaller ones in my right. The doctor told me that I would probably not feel them if passed but it didn't matter. I'm unfit to serve.

I dont know about the other branches, but when I left the Navy last year they were trying to get from 400,000 down to about 340,000.
They still have a little way to go on dumping current enlistees.
They can afford to be VERY picky on new recruits right now.

I think it may the same for the others. Fighting a so-called war takes money, and a congressmans brother-in-law takes priority over 100,000 warriors.

That sucks, you don't know how many people I met there were so gung ho to serve but were disqualified for medical reasons. I wish guys like you could replace a lot of the assbags I was forced to serve with

No, the best time to serve in the military is when there isn't a moron commander in chief who uses the military as a pawn to invade a country when there's no threat against the United States. The point of the military is to defend America, not to wage unnecessary wars.

No, the best time to serve in the military is when there isn't a moron commander in chief who uses the military as a pawn to invade a country when there's no threat against the United States. The point of the military is to defend America, not to wage unnecessary wars.
