Long story short, my wife was holding our shih-tzu, quite the beefy (not fat...pretty substantial frame for his breed) guy mind you at 19lbs, and he squirmed and fell. Poor guy hit the left side of his little face and ended up getting a fractured jaw.
He's got the most incredible attitude and personality of any dog we've ever had. Depending on what's he's up to and what he's doing at the time, he will really and truly think he's either as big and strong as a St. Bernard or as wily and agile as a house cat. This time, however, he outdid himself. She was holding him and walked by where I was eating at our bar and he lurched over to try and "hop" out of her arms and onto the bar a la the "house cat" maneuver. I believe he hit the jaw on the edge of the bar because she was able to kind of keep him from nose-diving straight down head-first on the tile.
It's not a severe or compound fracture and no teeth were wrecked but it is bad enough to require pins and wires. He's heading into surgery in a couple hours. Even though you might find me annoying and abrasive at times, please keep my little Buddy in your thoughts/prayers. I'll post a pic soon as I get him home and settled.
