My Linksys Router is dead

I think my router is dead, but I kind of want to know what is the cause of the death for my router.
I just woke up from a nap and found my status for my WAN is on, so I unplug it and it is still on.
I recently I grade the firmware and the CSR from linksys told me that might be the cause for my router. And he told me updating the firmware is unsafe and they don't recomand to update the firmware even when you are having problem with the connection. But I always thought it is good to update the firmware. Anyone have any comment on it?

I would update the firmware. What's it for, then, if you shouldn't change it even if there's a problem? I've updated the firmware on a linksys router and it didn't break it, just follow directions and you shouldn't harm it.

You can bork a router or any other device when upgrading the firmware, but you would have known right away. It would have not started at all, if you had hosed the ugrade.

Well, the router works for like 2 days after flashing the firmware and it just happen today, so I am just straight out laughing when I am talking to the CSR when he told me that it is bad to update the firmware.

Power cycle the router and try the firmware rescue procedure - you can find it doing a google search. For future reference, it's helpful to mention which router you have when asking for help.

As far as I can tell, Linksys outsources their tech support to India. My experience is that the quality of support rep you get varies wildly. The good news is that there are actually clueful techs there who can solve your problem (this part puts them ahead of many tech support orgs!), but the bad news is that you will likely have to talk to several bozos before stumbling across one of the clueful ones. If the person you're talking to is obviously bozo, don't be shy about thanking them for their help and getting them off the phone, try to get someone else. Oh, and because I think they're in India, it might actually be advantageous for you to call them in the middle of the night for you, which is the day for them... odds of getting more senior folks are better.
