My younger sister got married today, it was a beautiful ceremony at a local winery. Relatively small wedding with only 65 people all friends and family on the brides side (groom's side lives 2500 miles away on east coast). As I said the wedding was beautiful, it was sunny outside, the food was amazing, everything was exactly as we could have hoped for it to be. However, one of the groom's friends was a huge jackass who had to be forced off our property at the reception/after party (2 police cars showed up) as he was extremely drunk being belligerent and really upsetting the bride. He ended up punching a close friend of the family who is 52 years old and made a huge jackass of himself. His friend insulted my mother and threatened to kill her, I was ready to kill the guy when I found this out, luckily some friends of mine were at the reception to restrain me and prevent a murder on my sister's wedding day. Cops showed up and calmed the two people down a little but they continued to be annoying assholes, I don't know how many people have experienced problems like that at a wedding before but I was extremely annoyed. If I ever see either of the people again there will be huuuuuuuuuuge problems, has anyone else had an experience like that at a wedding? Its a f**king wedding, leave your problems or whatever at the door and even if you have a problem don't make the bride or groom aware of it. I have never been more annoyed with someone than I am/was at the two people who were at the wedding.

Anyhow I am still somewhat drunk so I am going to sleep until I get woken by my parents for a "special wedding family breakfast/whatever".

I've been at a couple of receptions where alcohol was not provided. They were great. I'll never understand why someone can't control their drinking on one day out of the year. I'm always first in line at the bar...but for some days...you just gotta have a little bit of class. Apparently the people you encountered didn't have it. if i ever get married (unlikely) i would probably not have an open bar of any kind. Just causes more problems than it's worth from all the weddings i've been to.

Weddings IMO are all about enjoying the happy occasion, and wishing happiness on others. In this case, the groom's friend is definitely low class.

Congrats to your family and the couple. Yeah, there are always some people who get drunk too much and make a big scene. At my wedding (whenever that will be), I will make sure that there is no alcohol served (no one drinks in my immediate family anyways except for one uncle who actually drinks a lot - i guess, there is always an exception )

Eh... we had over 200 people at my sisters reception and there was an open bar. Not one alcohol related problem, even though there were lots of people who were friends of friends, etc...

That's why you have to have bartenders that know how to read someone to see when they should be cut off. Or if it was just a Help Yourself type beerfest, then someone should have noticed earlier and cut the guy off.

Oh well. Hopefully it blows over.

It happens.
You have to know who you will be inviting before deciding on having an open bar or not.

Meh, its just another day. Of course, people getting drunk and belligerent is annoying on any day.

I DJ'd weddings for a few years and could count on a good fight where there was an open bar and the reception was held at someone's house. But those were also the same receptions where people were constantly bringing me drinks.

Ahh, nothing like free drinks and watching a good fight.

I was at a friend's wedding and a friend of ours brought his ex-gf as his date. Bad idea.

She got very drunk at the reception, and the shuttle drivers called the police after the two of them got into a fight. Not a verbal fight either.

MY Uncle had an allergic reaction to some peanuts he ate (he is real allergic) and we rushed him out of the wedding without the bride knowing about it.
