my brother had free beer at his wedding...nothing happened and everyone had fun...wasnt too expensive either...only a few kegs

Your right, in that i doesn't have to be expensive. A couple kegs at a private residence is not expensive. However, if you're venue requires you to hire professional bar tenders and you serve mix drinks, the tab adds up quickly. I've even seen places that require your hire security if you serve alcohol.

I went to a friend of a friends wedding, and there was this bitch on the brides side of the wedding, she had been harrassing the bride all day and was a bridesmaid till she caused too many problems. She shouldn't have been at that wedding.

Well when it came time to catch the bouquet, she fucking dove for it and spilled my friends water all of her and herself. Well then she started harrassing my friend because she was in her way. Well it eventually escalted to where they both poured water on eachother, and the problem girl started to leave. My friend went after her and took her heal off and was going to tap on her rear window but instead it went right through it. Police got called my friend went to jail.

Must have been a 'neck wedding. Nobody I know or any family members I know or family members of people I know--besides a redneck I do know--would ever, ever do anything like that.

If it's the groom's friend, a good enough friend that he was invited to such a small wedding, your sister must have married a really classy guy.

usually in the lower income/class brackets.

I have never been to a 'dry' wedding. I am in my mid 30's now, so I have been to quite a few of them. I have never been to a wedding with a brawl from drinking. These have been mixed from older refined couples to young and rowdy weddings. Most that's happened was a shove perhaps.

Things get said from time to time at a wedding whether one is drinking or not. It's actually the time and place not to hold back if you have anything to say. Now if no one is buying it then sit down and let it be that you made your peace.

Let someone mentioned above though, the one incident that causes the most events I have witnessed is the bouquet toss. I have seen a couple slaps, a full on body check over a table, and some pulled hair. They have been short-lived temper tantrums though.

At my wedding we had alcohol at the "official" reception. Our wedding was a early wedding though and we were done with the reception by 5:00PM.

Afterwards we all went back to the hotel and had a party in one of the banquet halls with beer and liquor and had a great time with no issues.

Guess it all comes down to knowing who to invite and when to serve drinks.

I can relate, OP. I had the good fortune of acting as my girlfriend's date when her cousin, the bride, got married. The groom seemed nice enough, but his friend, let's call him Joe, turned out to be a total asshole.

Joe was dancing with my girlfriend's older sister, let's call her Jane, for quite a while. It seems the open bar was a little too much for Joe to handle, and in his drunken stupor he started grinding up on Jane. This made her very uncomfortable, and though she asked him to stop, he refused. She ran to the bathroom moderately upset, probably because she felt embarrassed for having Joe do that in front of her family. Joe chased Jane into the ladies' room, and, from what I heard later, was calling calling her a bitch and other such names. Someone alerted Jane's, also my girlfriend's, father, who rushed into the bathroom. He tried to calm Joe down and make him leave the bathroom, but Joe replied "WHY? 'CAUSE YOUR DAUGHTER'S A SLUT??"

Shortly thereafter, Joe was thrown out of the bathroom by Jane's father and kicked down the hallway. Joe's two friends, including the best man, all of whom were drunk, came to his aid. A few of the bride's relatives, Jane's father, and I fought and subdued them. Luckily, the wedding reception in another part of the place where we were had security, who were happy to escort them outside.

Funnily enough, my girlfriend's/Jane's father had despised me until then, has been a little nicer to me after we fought side by side.

My younger sister got married today, it was a beautiful ceremony at a local winery. Relatively small wedding with only 65 people all friends and family on the brides side (groom's side lives 2500 miles away on east coast). As I said the wedding was beautiful, it was sunny outside, the food was amazing, everything was exactly as we could have hoped for it to be. However, one of the groom's friends was a huge jackass who had to be forced off our property at the reception/after party (2 police cars showed up) as he was extremely drunk being belligerent and really upsetting the bride. He ended up punching a close friend of the family who is 52 years old and made a huge jackass of himself. His friend insulted my mother and threatened to kill her, I was ready to kill the guy when I found this out, luckily some friends of mine were at the reception to restrain me and prevent a murder on my sister's wedding day. Cops showed up and calmed the two people down a little but they continued to be annoying assholes, I don't know how many people have experienced problems like that at a wedding before but I was extremely annoyed. If I ever see either of the people again there will be huuuuuuuuuuge problems, has anyone else had an experience like that at a wedding? Its a f**king wedding, leave your problems or whatever at the door and even if you have a problem don't make the bride or groom aware of it. I have never been more annoyed with someone than I am/was at the two people who were at the wedding.

Anyhow I am still somewhat drunk so I am going to sleep until I get woken by my parents for a "special wedding family breakfast/whatever".

generally its problematic when 1 side of the wedding dominates... if as you say...
99% of the attendants were brides friedns and family...
Thats jsut asking for trouble.

The redneck comments are amusing. I must admit I thought the same thing.

My older sister had an outdoor wedding w/ open bar. It was so awesome. Everyone stayed dancing and drunk until like 1am. A lot of fun.

Yup. This one falls under the age old saying, "You play with fire and you get burned."

Also, screw those guys for messing up your sister's wedding. Jerks.
