This is the cause for the delay now according to Dell. They were having too many quality control issues. I think these laptops were just way too popular, and they are probably are pushing things through too quickly and making errors while doing so.

That is a shame, especially considering that the XPS is supposed to be their ultra line of machines. You would think that they would have taken some extra consideration in the building of the machines. I hope that you don't end up experiencing any more sever problems (Cooling, noises, part failures)

I'm sorry to see this. Not only for you b/c you already spent your money. Nope. For me too; I was actually considering a Dell for my next (imminent) laptop purchase.

I might just GO WITH THIS FOR $900.

Granted, the display isn't as nice, but the specs are really nice for the money. Plus...I doubt it could be worse than the crap Dell seems to let thru QC these days.

If I were you, I'd have bitched loudly and clearly to Dell. And to some kind of supervisor. You deserve to get what you paid for; a brand-new top of the line laptop. Not a scratch and dent looking refurb.

I hope this gets successfully resolved in your favor.

Are you guys being sarcastic? This guy is whining about ridiculously trivial things. It's a DELL! You get what you pay for, my friend.

The M1330 starts at $1,300. So, you're saying that for my $1,300 I should expect dents, scratches, parts that pop off and gaps b/t parts big enough to drop a nickel through?

It's a NEW laptop. It should be perfect or darn near it. My Acer TM400 is worth about half what he paid and aside from the F10 key being popped off (I popped it right back on) when I opened the box, it was perfect.

Are you on crack? It's a NEW laptop he paid for. Maybe you are used to getting things that are constructed poorly for your money, but this is unacceptable. It's poorly built, and he's detailed it pretty well. Dells are not like this, they screwed up and they should fix/replace it with a m1330 that is cosmetically perfect. The sides should be aligned and there shouldn't have been any dents, regardless of brand.

I mean if you got a new car, even if it's a cheapo ford whatever, are you saying it's okay to have the bumper kind of askew and the side panels dented? Because that's what you are implying.

seriously i really think these are minor things and he's just ridiculously anal.

this isn't a new ferrari. its a $1300 laptop. and considering what is in it, $1300 isnt even that much. I mean it would be nice if the hard drive tray was flush , etc but seriously were you expecting that from a piece of consumer electronics? you are probably the same type of person who crys when a monitor has 1 single dead pixel.

$1300 is dirt cheap for what the xps m1330 has , if you want to have a real reason to whine get a sony viao tx and pay twice as much. This is getting what you paid for and if anything you are still getting a great deal seeing as the laptop is still fairly well spec'd out by default.

I personally returned every monitor with a single dead/hot pixel. When you bring it home BRAND NEW, it must be perfect.

And my $400 Compaq is assembled perfectly.

THe manufacturers specs are that it cant have 1 or more depending on size. They are not selling "perfect" they as selling what they say is production quality. I suppose its people like you who just make monitors more expensive for everyone else seeing as whatever store you bought it form has to take a loss on the monitor due to it being "used" etc.

Got my 19" LG in November 2006 - perfect 1st time around.

Got the 17" Viewsonic in January - perfect 1st time around.

Got the 22" ACER in March - perfect 1st time around.

Why I decided to buy $250 LG...?

Because I returned the $90, 17" Samsung back to Staples 3 times/3 separate brand new monitors!

I do not mind paying for perfection - that's why I prefer to "overpay" at a retail store, instead of facing a huge disappointment due to the manufacturer's ignorance.

That's why you don't buy cars on line...

BTW, Samsung was the $90 "price match", the regular "in-store" price was ~$200.

I'll be the first to admit I am a little anal about details but it isn't liek I complained about trvial stuff. You see 1 error you look for more and when you find more you keep looking, eventually little things like the HDD tray being flush and other things that are correct but designed poorly will stand out more. Also yes if this thign came with even 1 dead pixel I would be sending it back to dell ASAP! Why should I live with a dead pixel from the get go? I have a 20.1 dell monitor with 2 dead pixels but they didn't show up until 1.5 years AFTER I purchased it, that I can live with but why when it is new out of the box?
This is also not getting what I paid for. $1300 is above average for a laptop in mid 2007 and the way mine is speced it cost me $1900. Only a few hundred dollars shy of a Sony SZ of the same specs (but the sz comes with 2 videocards you can switch between) and the build quality is FAR better on every Vaio SZ I have seen compared to this. And when the dell $600 Vostro business laptop is shipping with much better build quality why should i accept this on my $1900 XPS?

1 or 2 things i could deal with but this many obvious errors is just ridiculous especially after i waited 5 weeks for it and got treated very poorly by Dells CSR's.

Keep in mind he paid $1900....

Regardless of whether he paid $2000 or $20, there's no reason why Dell should be sending out laptops with such poor assembly. Some of the stuff he was definitely just anal about, like the HDD bay and SD slot not being flush, but some of the stuff he complained about were legit IMO. Half the point of buying something new (especially a laptop) is that you'd expect it to be in good condtion. Buying something new with dents in it is not a good look for Dell.

Well on my page I split it into 2 different sections, Design flaws, and Build errors. A design flaw is something that was designed to be that way but poorly designed, and a build error are things like gaps, cracks, dents, etc. The SD card slot is clearly meant to be that way and not unique to my laptop, I am not holding dell responsible for it however I do think it is a very bad design and should be changed as many of us would liek to leave an SD card in there without worrying about 1) breaking the card 2) breaking the reader, 3) losing the card. Same with others like the remote control, keyboard appearence, etc. I wouldn't return my laptop for these things but they can all be improved.
However other things like the dent are clear quality control issues. I also believe the HDD cover sticking out, though possibly designed that way, is a clear error on their part. I am not sure how many others have this issue but it is possible it is found on every machine therefor designed that way but what college dropout designed it?

either way I am being shipped a replacement and hopefully it is just as good as my machine (including the Toshiba screen I have instead of the CMO) without all of the build quality issues. cross your fingers =\

If you ordered the LED LCD just go to device manager, click on monitor and go to properties, then you go to more info and go to detail or type i believe. 2306 is toshiba, CMO xxxx is Chai Mei
