No, he's saying to respect someone based SOLELY on their sexual preference is stupid. Your original statement made it sound like you respected your gay friends simply b/c they were gay and made it publicly known. If you treat them like everyone else you'd respect them (or in some cases not respect them) based on their character not their sexual preference.

Maybe I didnt make my original post clear enough. Anyways, there are a lot of people who disrespect others just because they are gay. What I am saying is that I respect them for who they are, regardless if they are gay. Those friends of mine are some of the nicest people I know.
